I saw it in theatres. I liked Apocalypse ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I didn’t give Dark Phoenix a shot but I think Apocalypse was fun. Haven’t seen it since theatres though. Business wise it had to have even profitable to justify a sequel (Disney does not follow this business model for some reason).

I remember WB considered Batman V Superman a flop in 2016 despite earning $600 M because it didn’t break the 1 B mark. The movie grossed 600 M box office revenue!
I loved DoFP. Have the 4k Steelbook of it. Such a fantastic movie. But for whatever reason, I never got around to watching Apocolypse, even though I like the character. He was great in X-Cutioner's Song, and you can't go wrong with the entirety of the Age of Apocolypse revamp of every Marvel title. I still have all of them bagged and boarded at my mom's house in Pennsylvania. I should probably sell some shit.

Maybe not so surprising. Disc sales is where movies used to make their profit. Matt Damon talked about this a few years ago. He said they made all their cash on disc sales, and now there's no profit to be made at all unless it goes direct to streaming.

Streaming is killing everything, and only a few streaming services make money, the rest lose a lot of cash on them.

My solution is simple. Return to the old way of doing business. Theatrical release, then 6mo-1yr disc release, then 1 yr after that streaming release.

My concept is simple:

Theatrical release pays for production and advertising.

Disc release is where the majority of profits are made. And no more of these $28 mixed disc releases only. $14.99 blu ray. Hell, with compression as good as it is today, we could skip the blu ray BS altogether and drop them on DVD media with no real loss in a/v quality vs blu ray. Won't have to pay royalties or any BS with that.

Streaming then becomes a source of a little extra cash instead of a black hole for profits.
That’s anti consumer.

that’s the same concept of “the internet is killing print press.” Etc

Apocalypse and his wife were a center plot point in Jonathon Hickman’s X-Men: Sword of X from a few years ago. Some of my favorite x men art designs since Jim Lee and Chris Clairemont’s 90s run.

I'll have to find some of it online. I mostly dropped out of Comics a little after I met my wife almost 20 years ago. Still have a few that I download (Invincible & Saga), but that's about all.

Is this the same thing you mentioned?

Yessir. Here’s a free download link for the .cbr file

Getcomics is a good website for comic downloads. You can read them on any app that reads .cbr files. I used “Panels” on iPad. The plot isn’t the best but the artwork is exceptional

If you’ve been out of comics 20 years, except Saga and Invincible, which are brilliant btw, I’d recommend these two:
Donny Cates Venom run (2019-2021? It has two cross over events called Maximum Carnage and ends with King in Black. Amazing artwork).

Batman new 52 run by Greg Capullo (spawn artist) and Scott Snyder. Particularly:

vol 1: court of owls
Vol 2: city of owls
Vol 3: death of the family (my favorite joker story)
Vol 7: endgame (another great joker story)

court (and city) of owls is about basically the Illuminati in Gotham and it’s awesome.

I individually downloaded 25 total issues, including the handbook to fill me in up to this point. Thanks for the suggestion.

I remember Maximum Carnage from the 90's. I still have all of those issues as well. I remember collecting them (as they were first released) from my local comic store. Much like how I got all of the Age of Apocolypse stuff and Ultimate Marvel. Was there a second Maximum Carnage?

I apologize, it's Absolute Carnage. Vol 3 of the Donny Cates' Venom run.

The entire Venom run by Cates is fuckin' awesome. It's like a splash of red in a sea of black and white. Most comics from DC and Marvel have been woke dogshit since 2016 onwards, but there are a few gems.

Notably, Scott Snyder's New 52 Batman run. Donny Cates' Venom run. Jonathan Hickman's Secret Wars (2015) cross-over event. I'd recommend all of those over the Swords of X X-Men with Apocalypse, but if you like Apocalypse, it's an extremely beautifully drawn story. I'd say artwork wise, some of the BEST artwork Ive ever seen in comics (after Jim Lee) has been in Cates' Venom run or the Sword of X run.

Why do comics keep reusing the same names? No idea. There was also a 1980's Death *of a* Family Joker story vs Death *of the* Family in like 2013.
