At a $160 million box office threshold, Tron: Ares triggers $72.2 million in worldwide theatrical rentals, $37.6M in global home entertainment, close to a $100M in global home television, with an extra $5 million from airlines for a total of $214.8M in revenues. Put this up against the $220 million net production cost shot with Vancouver, BC tax credits, a $102.5M global P&A spend with stunts at San Diego Comic-Con, touring light cycles, a laser light Nine Inch Nails laser-light concert at the Los Angeles premiere that closed down Hollywood Boulevard, $10.8M in others costs and $14.2M in residuals, which gets you to total costs of $347.5M. That gets us to a $132.7 million loss.

if I remember right, the very first trailer had nothing to do with anything but speed bikes cut cars in half? Then they threw in Bridges in to make it feel like a sequel ? It should not be that difficult to make a Tron movie or at least a story

Yes ignore the ugly diversity hires and likely diversity hires involved in production.

Just attack the shitty white lead.

Well, not to mention the whole concept of this story, that had nothing to do with the actual character of TRON. This would have done better if they had continued the 2nd movie. Disney is such a shit show. If I did not know better I would swear that Disney is some giant money laundering operation for another country.

not a bomb but broke even at best

and LOL at the 80s, they didn't fuck with weird American movies internationally. It made $525 overseas. Not 525,000... $525...
The internet was not a thing when Tron was released, so all data that is on imdb has been recovered from archives like old issues of Variety. I am going to guess that overseas data is harder to get and compile that US data and therefor has not / almost not been added to imdb. That seems a much more likely scenario than Tron selling 100ish tickets outside the US.

On topic: I really enjoyed Legacy and I found Ares very very bland. Even the NIN music felt overbearing and self-parodic.

Its funny, cause, I think that its fine. getting the same actors, etc. ok, lets do something new.

"A rival company hacks Encom, and steals the tech, all hell breaks loose"
easy done.

but, no. instead we ahve to spit on preexisting franchise, and "oh he just decided he was too white and male. the Workplace was too hard for a man like him, he should go home and be a house husband. and be replaced with a girlboss."
