This whole "controversy" is being fed by both of these guys, milking you pay pigs into watching their bullshit and feeding ad revenue. It's parasocial stuff in general in general, although Japan has some really extreme cases. That anime 'Perfect Blue', while it focuses on Idol culture and was made in the 90s, basically captures the same concept as part of the plot.

It's also another reason why female Japanese streamers frequently try to hide relationship details from fans - I recall watching some interview with a former JAV star who moved to regular Twitch streams and she mentioned that in Japan the male followers will get giga triggered and angry if they find out "their" girl is in a relationship with another dude. Granted that could happen anywhere, but it gets magnified in Japan because there are a large number of young shut-ins...I forget the word, but there is a word in Japanese that basically means a person who basically lives like a hermit and doesn't want to go outside/interact with anyone.
