I think people like him because he is viewed as an everyman. His fans may not have the same issues, but they see him being mostly reasonable and making something of himself despite his issues. It endears him to them.

that piratesoftware guy is an absolute moron. he was talking about some low level tech shit one time and was completely wrong. i personally believe this guy never wrote a single line of code for anything meaningful at blizzard yet he presents himself as something more than a peasant in a large corp. the amount of actual work an individual contributor does even on small team at a large corporation is nothing. the dudes i have to interview who come from (non-FAANG) large corps are literally dogwater programmers; rather have a junior dev than deal with anyone who has ever "worked" at a large corp.

asmon is also an absolute moron but at least his ability to self shame and present himself as a layman make him a little more relatable when off base
