I watched that movie last night with my daughter. It was entertaining, but it wasn't the source material. Maybe it is to the Manga of All You Need is Kill, but the novel itself was a lot similar to the movie. It focused on the dude making his way through this "ability". There were no giant plants that made flower monsters. The idea worked for a visual media, but the story itself was different. Having both Rita and the dude operating on the same power loop made sense for what it was, but it doesn't give a good end the story. It was sub-par for what came before it.
