these dudes did it again it seems. This has no right to be this addictive.

"a casual, turn‑based deckbuilder with roguelite elements"
word salad mashup.

Theres a demo via next fest.

Why do people say a game has “no right to” be something? This expression genuinely confuses me. Why does an addictive game loop have no right to be addictive?

I'm imagining the top 5 games in this genre bringing in the newcomer to a dimly lit basement of an italian eatery and telling them they have to earn the right to be this addictive by first going through several years of losses.

does, "turn based, card battler, dungeon crawler, roguelite" sound like something that should work? or does it just sound like someone repeating the current buzzwords? on paper this sounds like shit. Words do not do it justice. its like Balatro. while I don't love that. Balatro on paper, if anyone tries to describe it. does not sound fun.

compare it to darkhaven. "from the creators of diablo 1/2, action arpg, with terrain destuction1" and its total ass.

Yes it does sound like it should work. There’s turn based card battling dungeon crawler games already lol.

Theres lots of games that are using stuff that’s already been done and combining them together and making it work. Then they slap roguelite mechanics on it to make short runs where you slowly gain power. When you have good mechanics combined with quick runs like that you get the addictiveness of “just one more run”. This shouldn’t be surprising anymore, these indie companies have been doing it a lot over the past several years and being very successful with it.

This is really good, needs more depth as it is very easy and card combos are just insanely strong. Simplicity in a deck builder is not a good thing. Maybe more downsides or more monster attacks.

I know this dev will nail it and probably only charge 3.99 so definitely one to watch for me.

To be fair, we only have 2 levels. I'd imagine there are going to be significantly more than that. I'd also guess there is a means to progress further in the levels we have (have more life than death hits for?) which will make those levels longer.

I do agree that right now the combos seem insanely strong, but it doesn't give me any concern at this time.

Played around with it some. Death hits for 100, so if you can get over 100 health he doesn't one shot you. Then you are in combat with him and he swings for 100 damage, so you can definitely kill him and continue to advance.

Picked it up and played a few runs today. Lots of stuff added. Early stuff still feels easy, I'm curious how it will feel once you can live through the death guy and get further in. Seems like mountains of stuff to unlock.

Echoing the same sentiments about the initial difficulty curve. I unlocked 7-8 characters in my first session and it feels very sameish regardless of who you play as none of the crawler abilities really shake things up (so far) since the "best" way to play currently feels like infinitely (or close to it) looping of your deck with mana/card draw combos and a big damage spender or two and it feels really easy to get that going with the limited card options. The arcana that lets you retain up to 5 mana between turns is also extremely strong so I hope the rest that are still blank do some amazing shit. I also wish there were more chances to do evolutions. On average I'm getting 1 per 5/5 level while clearing everything which is kind of boring and makes you want to keep decks tiny when possible because what is the point in bloating your deck otherwise other than to screw your infinite loop.

Is another great Steamdeck game though for sure.

Everything was easy until the bridge. Kept failing because I couldn't get powerful and the chip damage over time due to the long waves kept killing me. But started cycling trough characters and got to the skeleton.... Granted haven't tried all characters I have unlocked yet (buy everyone I can get, think I have 4ish rows now?), but that skelly damage... It obliterated the bridge and went into overkill on the last boss and finished with hardly any damage taken.

Definitely gets harder as you go. I haven't actually failed a run yet, and I just killed Death for the first time. As you get more unlocks there is some neat stuff. I've completed every level of the maps up to the second bridge which I haven't done at all yet. Think I'm up to 17 crawlers?

I just unlocked the priest dude - seems pretty powerful. You get a fuckton of mana books and do damage when you use them, so I slapped a bunch of gems that retained them after use so I could just spam. I never ran out of mana and could use up my entire hand + extra draws easily

How do you get above 333 hp that death hits for? I’ve got to 150ish with the card that raises max hp , and I guess I could have extended some fights to try to get higher but that would have taken forever.
