I've been blasting in my wife lately because something about blasting on her bothers her. I think it's time for the snip snip myself.
IIRC, your wife would like another kid even though it's essentially not in the cards anymore? My wife still expresses desire for another kid despite being over 40 and the first pregnancy being quite rough. I'm not really motivated to reopen that topic, but I suspect there's something there.

That's conclusion I came to after reading your post. Very much a streamlined process. When I did a consultation, all the precautions and screening questions were generic surgery, nothing related to the vasectomy itself. I had to go hunting for risks, prompted by this thread. I wouldn't have known about the options available to me, about how there are newer, lower risk variations, and how almost no one in my area practiced them.

Obviously, patients have a responsibility to advocate for themselves. But what I found versus the general attitude toward vasectomies was discomforting.
I had a very successful vasectomy and I completely agree with you. Doctors need to be better about explaining risks and patients need to be more proactive about researching themselves. And doctors need to be more sensitive about the life-changing sexual issues they can cause with a slip of the knife. It always seems to me that they don't particularly care about your quality of life, just that you're alive. It's very frustrating to deal with them on QoL issues.

She wouldn't mind if we had another, but she (and doctors) doesn't think she can have another. This is probably the year I get snipped though.

Well, when your wiener stops working you'll have plenty of time to get the van up and running again.
