Some thoughts and questions that maybe some of you may have an answer as trying to find information online these days seems impossible.

1. What's the best way to watch a movie in VR? Has anyone tried it? Is it worth it?
2. is there a way to play 2D games in VR? I don't expect a full VR experience, I just want to play 2D games in 2d With the screen taking up my entire FoV with normal Mouse/KB controls. This could be really cool, but I don't know if it's possible or what kind of requirements are needed to do it.
I do VRChat twice a week, and we usually start off with a place called popcorn palace. It can play vids from alot of different places and has alot of different rooms to watch in.

I think you can even get stuff going from goog drive. Not sure if plex works though.

For doing shit like this.

Having cutouts for the wheel, shifter, button box and maybe where my keyboard and drink are sitting would be a new step in QoL and immersion.

That would be wild. I did Quest 2 VR flying in flight sim 2020 and a star wars game.

What does this give that makes it even remotely close to being worth $1k

The one I have doesn't have this feature and it was 2k. It also weighs almost 3x as much and I can do no more than 2.5-3 hours in it at a time due to the weight. Makes doing endurance races difficult.

What of that racing passthru was real? was the "car" all real? wow...crazy setup lol

Is that adapter needed for ANY passthru or only "better" 4k? because the Oculus 3 (and whatever the better 3 is) has color passthru that looks darn good...

I am sure really good passthru and AR mapping will be killer for games and "sophisticated culture" of the interwebs

The wheels pedals and when he looks to the floor is real. The rest is the game. He built a tiny little enclosure that blocks out all light to make it more immersive. I really want to do that, just a lot of money until the steam frame.

The problem with the quest 3 is the latency, it's through USB-C so it has to encode the signal so it makes a 40ms response time to what's going on. Imagine trying to race with that delay. I couldn't do it, so I got Displayport. If it wasn't for the latency I'd do the Q3.

The default passthrough is black and white I believe. Like mine.

You cannot do streaming off your gaming PC via wifi? That's what I did with my quest 2. Mind I wasn't trying to race online so no idea on latency but flying around etc seemed lag free

The 3 has color passthrough IIRC - I have the 2 its grainy B&W - the last I looked for "PC + Quest" it was done via essentially a remote PC player and not a /true/ VR headset connection like non-stand-alone VE headsets - i.e the Quest is a stand alone- all in one headset, its "compute and VR display" while the others are "just VR display" and your computer is the compute and graphics processing.

USBC should have pleanty of bandwith, I guess it depends on what version they are using, I think USB C 3? is the same or > thunderbolt

ahh I explained it poorly mainly because it's been years since I messed with it. The quest 2 could play games with it's onboard graphics and they were OK or you could stream from your PC with a wifi passthrough (or USB-C Cable) and your PC's graphic's card would do the heavy lifting. That is how I played MS Flight Sim 2020 , over wifi with my 2080ti graphics card.
That is the last VR headset I bought. I could not even sell the rift it replaced and I think it's either in my shed collecting dust or in a landfill collecting dust.

I found an easy way to install android apps on meta quest without having to sideload... F-Droid/Aurora

I'm just going off what my fellow sim racers have told me. Most switched off the Q3 as quickly as possible due to the latency issues with usb-c. I don't know any specifics other than that.
