I think you're giving Tyen too much credit. Kid can run a few scripts to farm likes and +1s on G+, but he's nowhere near sophisticated enough to make something like that actually happen.

Oh, I dunno. I think he's just stupid enough to try to get away with it, Ronne.

Who knows. But we definitely know that Tyen is stupid. Any devs out there? It seems you'd just have to open a http request to fohguild.org/forums and it woudl register as a view, right?

It would register as a new session, provided you hadn't been there before and had no session cookie open. Sessions have a timeout length if not kept active, so if you want a new session, you have to rid yourself of the cookie and then get a new one, or wait for the session to time out without activity.

There are probably a thousand different ways to defraud something as simple as a forum in terms of views, but a botnet is a bit of a stretch. Still, it would be a good place to practice...

Yeah dont see Tyen as an author, everything he did was scripts borrowed from 'blackhat' forums. His skills probably end with being able to follow a MS flow chart for XboX CS.

Ya I read through most of Tyens BS scamming social media thread. He was basically just using things other people wrote / coded to his own gain. Typical script kiddie stuff. To be honest the people out there seriously scamming FB, twitter, etc. aren't posting how to do it, they are making money off doing it. Same theory as the guys writing the get rich quick books.

I'm sure Req understands how to read his hosting bill, but to continually quote that as the exact cost is just plain ignorant. IF **HE** were to start the site from scratch again thats how much it would cost him, but obviously there are many ways to skin a cat.

I know there are others around here who are good with web hosting / internet stuff to realize the same thing. I'm sure it can be done for cheaper.

Depends on how he has it set up and how the whole attachment thing actually works on the backend. It could potentially be very, very expensive. Between the FSR and the PGT you're looking at terabytes of storage that all needs to be accessible for the potential thousands of visitors they get from non-members (linked to FB, reddit, whereever).

I don't know how Req actually manages the back end, but for example, Amazon S3 service would cost something near 2k/month just to host the massive pile of attachments on the old forum. I'd wager he actually owns/has access to the hardware required on his own without having to use a service like S3, but there is still considerable cost.

I mostly lurked when I viewed FoH, but just to add on to something from earlier in the thread:

This website does not need extensive moderation.

Low amounts of moderation is the best way to handle a website. If people post stupid shit, the users themselves are usually enough to scare people away. Moderation is best reserved for the most obvious of situations (ie: posting nsfw links, spam, bots, etc). Doing anything in this website but maintaining the original style would be a terrible mistake. Keep things simple, and let people handle themselves for the most part.

Oh, I never thought he created the malware. I'm sure he found it from somewhere else. OR, he got paid by someone with the know-how/code to put it on foh so that they would gain thousands of new bots, plus given access to use the bot network at times. The timing of the malware warnings and thousands of registered bot users on the forums is so close, that it can't be a coincidence. Who knows, he may have even convinced Req it was a way to monetize the traffic that he's footing the bill for, and Req is on board. You are more likely to listen to and agree with a real life friend then even a thousand online 'friends', even when said RL friend acts like an asshole online.

Wasn't there a post from Tyen in one of the early "wtf is going on" threads, which basically said "everything working as intended?" Still kind of odd that i haven't been paranoid about trojans/malware for years; could jump around a dozen pornsites unharmed, but get bitch-slapped from browsing FoH.

Quick question for you smart computer nerds that got virused up at foh. What program caught the virus specifically? I've scanned with avast, super anti spyware and did a free run with Malwarebytes and turned up nothing besides tracking cookies. My compuer is way to valuble and i need to be sure i'm clean. Thanks for any help
