I'd agree that the CGI looks better, but I still don't think it's to the level where you can put the CGI characters beside real humans and not have there be a stark contrast. I think they did a fantastic job capturing Warcraft's orcs' (and dwarf's) aesthetic, but Warcraft's humans are stylized as well. And perhaps I'm being a little nit-picky, but I also think it's a weird where they're choosing to use CGI and where they don't: Male orcs are full CGI, female orcs are mostly body paint. Humans are just actors, the dwarf is CGI.

Grew up on WC, in all it's forms. But, as far as a movie is concerned, it still irks me that a human would stand even the slightest chance in a fight against an Orc and for the common person (IE, not a WC fan) it would make even less sense.
I'm so confused..... you "grew up on WC" but you are baffled by humans fighting against orcs (the entire fucking premise of the entire series)? I must have missed Warcraft 0 where the orcs just exterminated the human race with no contention and all the other games were just a dream as the last human got squashed mercilessly under the invincible orc boots.

Movie related: Trailers make me not want to watch it.

i think he just means one on one. in wc1, units were pretty interchangeable, but by wc3 it was clear that a footman vs a grunt would end in the grunt's favor. and also, while i'm cautiously optimistic about the movie, the hulking mass of the orcs just make the humans look so scrawny that it's hard to envision humans having any real chance in a fight.

That's why you slide under them and chop their orc balls off to kill them.

Also the physical disparity was countered that orcs where dumb and not as agile while human fighters where more skilled... but "plot" has taken that away and 1 v 1 a massive agile, skilled smart orc is going to destroy a human footman.

What a shock. Everyone in the world has common sense and can understand simple concepts, except ZombieRetardedPants.

Yes, in the "game" they had to balance the units. In this "movie" when you see a 6 foot tall 180 pound man fight a 7 foot tall, 300 pound Orc, it won't make a whole lot of sense to the common movie-goer. We, as WC fans, get that. But, if they want to appeal to the masses....

I'm probably wasting my time trying to explain it, aren't I?

I'm not sure where people see orcs and humans fighting on equal terms in the trailers. We see a couple of scenes of Lothar or similar badass heroes handling themselves fine, sure, but they're fucking heroes in armor with legendary weapons. Other cannon fodder is seen getting owned and crushed by the invading orcs, you even see a single orc lifting a horse and throwing it at an incoming group of soldiers.

Yes, you're wasting your time. As with pretty much every fantasy movie, suspension of disbelief will be required for this one.

Also, in LOTR, we saw a 6 foot something, 100 pound Elf destroy veritable legions of larger/stronger Uruk-hai while sliding on a shield. Enough said.

Legolas was an archer, and the melee parts he was doing some agile twirly shit around and not actually taking the hits but more dodging them. The elves that did fight in melee were like fully armored with the large elven shields and in roman formation to soften the impact from the charge and shit.

Also the Uruk-hais looked way smaller than the orcs in Warcraft. More lean, more "realistic", they looked like tall strong humans, orcs in WC looks like upright gorillas, which makes the difference even bigger, they're like 2 to 3 times as large as the Uruk-hais.

Looked pretty dumb, but eh whatever it's fantasy and shit. Could still have used a better scale though.

Just a note, but the orc chick being just bodypaint is because that's most likely Garona, who is half orc/half human. I'd imagine that full orc broads are mostly CGI as well, or they got Chyna out of pornland to bodydouble nonstop.

Trailers have been looking better since the first, and them treating humans as Legolas makes more sense given the sheer size of the orc guys they are fighting (in the various shots). Still not seeing it opening day or anything, but if I'm bored on a saturday morning it wouldn't be a terrible choice.

Edit - Color me corrected! Garona is apparently half dranei/half orc. Either way! That is a likely reason for her not being straight CGI. Or not. It's Warcraft; retconning stuff is pretty much the modus operandi.

Game Garona was half human in WC1, reconned to half draenai in either WC3:TFT or WoW:TBC.

Movie Garona is half human, they said that they are fixing their lore mistakes in the movie.
