Well this is probably the closest picture of modern war that isn't technically a documentary. They make sure to state that they only used accounts/reports from the operators that were there and it looks like numerous members of the involved units were present during shooting, making sure it was as close as possible.

Instead of slice of life, it's a slice of war. So if other movies/shows are bringing up bad memories, this certainly will be more intense in that regard.

Honestly, I had the same thought. Last year going through the VA for PTSD and a therapist really fucked me up. It was pretty miserable there for a good 8 months, and I'm not sure I particularly want to reopen that wound.

Had this one sitting in the queue for a week though. Worse is that not only was I in country at the time this takes place, I was only about an hour east, and supporting these same guys (although not directly).

Ugh... I'm going to have to watch this with the wife. I'm not going to be able to finish it solo. This is going to fuck me up, I already know it.

I couldn't do it. I got 1 hour into it and went into a full blown panic attack. Wife said it was worse one she's ever seen and she's never been so scared. I don't remember much of the attack. Just my hands going numb and black.

So...war movies are no more for me.

From what I was able to watch... The "Hollywood" being taken out of this movie was a fantastic fucking decision on their part. Visceral sound effects, probably most realistic I've heard in a movie, no music scores... None.

I definitely understand why you guys like it. I just can't do it. From what I was able to see before my hands went numb, I would give this movie a very solid 9/10.

Man when they started opening up with the mk48 the theatre shook.

The sound design was crazy

Also during the buildup
I didn't expect a grenade. I thought shit was gonna hit the fan starting with the American sniper being taken out by an Iraqi sniper

Imagine reading this as one of the soldiers on Guadalcanal, listening to dudes getting munched on by crocodiles in the middle of the night.

Honestly just skip this one, its good, but it is too close to the real thing I think if you are having any problems

It's not that bad, except for ~15min of constant screaming when a guy gets blown up (was that the part you couldn't stomach?). Just fast-forward it and you're good.

Jesus, this was quite the experience.

I started off kind of being amazed at all the little details they included and I was like "I'll post about that." But there were so many, from those fucking water bottles, to those god damn plastic chairs that were everywhere, to the little toughbook laptops. Kind of reminds me of when the first John Wick came out and it was a breath of fresh air because it wasn't typical Hollywood action schlock.

It was definitely a stressful watch, but I dunno, I'm getting to the point in my life where I can't even remember what was real or not, or in what context. It's something I realized in therapy, is I don't have any continuous memories anymore, it's just "moments." Like being in the back of a van driving down Route Irish and the doc yelling at us to scan the rooftops. No context, just a weird memory. Or, during the watching of this, I've been in the back of a Bradley, or maybe an APC, or something. I don't remember where, when, or why, but I remember jumping in the back of it and the ramp closing, and it being dark and bumpy as shit.

It's also interesting, because this is the first time I can remember a movie where the "badass operator dudes" don't look like superheroes. I especially related to one part where dude is just pissed off he's being shot at, and just starts randomly firing in anger at probably nothing. The pre-credit part where they've got all the photos, and half of them are blurred out, for some reason really hit me because I 100% ran into some, or maybe even many, of these guys 19 years ago. But it was just some guy I was eating my breakfast next to, or the guy I pulled guard duty with, or I went over to help with some commo issue (fun fact, I was in charge of the predator/UAV feeds for all of SOTF-Central, so the feed they're watching that whole time I was probably also watching, or at the very least set it up for their NSWTG guys). It's still bizarre to me that I was part of this small community. But in the end they were all just normal guys.

Yea this was heavy. The movie plays out as the events unfold which makes it all that much more realistic. The build up was a weird experience.

The photos at the end took me off guard. It's not like the first time that has been done in a movie, but this one hit harder for whatever reason.

Whether you were ever in the military or not this is worth a watch.

I can’t remember the last time I sat down and watched a movie in one sitting. At a lean 90 minutes, I found it to be gripping. I appreciated the lack of a regular music soundtrack. It would have distracted from what they were trying to portray with the audio in the film. Also, it wasn’t afraid of being unflattering, which made it feel more honest.
