Wife and I love werewolf movies, and have probably seen damn near every one on Prime, Tubi, etc., regardless of how bad they are. Let me save you some money - this is NOT worth paying for. Honestly it might as well be called The Purge 2.5, or whatever, since it feels 95% the same (and has Grillo), just without the fun. Special effects were fine, even if the werewolves looked a touch goofy.
I don't really consider these spoilers, but click at your own risk.
There is no science to this shit whatsoever, anywhere, even a tiny little bit, and (as you find out in the first 5 minutes) they are trialing some Moonscreen to prevent changes. No, I'm not kidding. There are no surprises waiting in store, no epic twist to look forward to. No jumpscares. The ending piece of drama is telegraphed in the first few minutes, so like I said, no twists or surprises. Like the Purge movies, I hated how there are dozens of BETTER ways to prepare for an event like this that you know is coming, and we saw none of them.
The frustrating part is, the idea behind this movie is pretty novel, and there were sooooo many cool directions they could have gone with it. And they went in zero of those directions. Honestly, I'd've much preferred to have seen what happened during the year prior when werewolves first manifested. The world has obviously not recovered from that event, and yet you get essentially zero of that lore, other than some offhand comment about "the thousands of first responders who gave up their lives to protect the city a year ago". Oh, and early in the movie some comment about how the coming night will be really bad because "you see what's happening in Japan and Australia right now". That's it.
Just a big disappointment.
