Season 4's punish-the-viewers ending did irreparable damage.
But it was season 3 where main characters like MIB, were teased a redemption arc, only to pull the rug out in the Season 3 finale and declare he is beyond redemption and isn't even a human-- just a stupid robot and a tool that we shouldn't care about what happens to. A nothing with no payoff for staying with the story and continuing to watch.
Nolan has stated he will do a manga and post it online to finish Season 5 if it comes down to that. He still hopes to get funding for a finale, but he said absolute worst case scenario, he will use animated shorts or even just basic manga photo story telling to finish the series.

When I only ever watched the first season, and I don't really remember much of it. I think I was going to try to watch the second but you guys had said it was pretty bad so I didn't bother. Didn't end up shifting to modern day outside of Westworld? What's the future world stuff any good or just stupid?
And Ed Harris is a robot? What the hell is that about, some sort of transhumanism deal?

It shifted to real-world only with dystopian cyberpunk themes. Basically CP 2077. Just as shlocky as the video game, just add Dolores as the full time main character and central focus.
Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad was good, but he was given a second-fiddle story that wasn't very interesting. He wasn't a complete cuck, he was a flawed guy working with minimal information trying to find his place in the chaos and I never felt they let him turn heroic. His arc was stifled.
They sidelined MIB for nearly all of Season 3, then started doing character development for him mid-season and a story arc and background on his life, and then teased redemption and that he could still become a hero and right wrongs. Then in the final episode they said "Haha just kidding, he's a robot you faggots. He's controlled by girlbosses. Forget that whole hero redemption arc. Girls rock"
