Ok, don't laugh. What the fuck exactly is the dark web?

Is it just .com's that sell drugs? Or is it all about cp? Is it sites that aren't indexed by search engines and like you need a trusted source on some chat group to send you a link?

I was reading about it a little last night... They were talking about using tor / onion browsers to access .onion sites. I've never seen or heard of a .onion site. I have a minimal level of understanding of tor/onion, being that if you use the tor browser your IP/data passes through a handful of sites in order to hide it, differently than VPN. But how does that equate into the existence of a .onion site? I thought you just used the tor browser as an alternative browser to Safari, Firefox, etc.

The reason this site exists and you are here is simply because its contents was indexes by google and other webcrawlers. So when you typed "Furor rant and Fedor trannies", this site showed up on the list; then you clicked on the link and boom you are here.

Sites that are no indexed by normal means are called the DEEP web, you can access them without any special software, but you have to know where to go.

Now a part of the deep web is the dark web.

A dark web needs special software to access such as tor.

Why do they need special software, because http browsing by default, sends the location of the user as part of the TCP/IP packet, in a matter that is not secured.

What this means in laymans terms is that the way the regular browsers are designed is that they send your IP always unencrypted, and this is done at the hardware level, there is nothing you can do to avoid it. In other words, your network card, in order to communicate with the ISP and servers, has to send them your IP and other identifying information, because every piece of hardware between you and the server( router, switches, isp) needs that data in order to work with the TCP/IP protocol, and this vital information is not encrypted. If someone is sniffing the network, it can read the packet and see who the source and target IP are.

What tor does different is that the IP information is encrypted from the start. Your TCP/IP packets, instead of saying: Source:72.34.233.212 , target: 233.1.2.32 , it will have encrypted values that a sniffer will not be able to decode easily. Not only that, but instead of encrypting it once, each hop on the net is also encrypted, the term onion comes from here.

Those IP are the actual path the packets take to reach the target server. On a dark web configuration I would be unable to see that, because each node would be encrypted.

I installed tor on my pc.


Then I realized that nothing good can come out of it. It is the software that it's number 1 use is the transmission of child pornography, even I were to use it for just getting movies, why risk it.

There is no upside to have it installed, so I removed it after.
