I think both Robin Williams and Philip Seymore Hoffman should be in the list.
Just as an example, Good Morning Vietnam. Yeah, Williams was clowning, and there was a lot of improv happening, but the moments where it mattered I just believed he WAS the character. One moment in particular is when he's trying to talk to the young Vietnamese character and he shouts "That's not the fucking point!" A tremendous moment in film.

Daniel Day Lewis - scary how good that guy is at times
Leonardo DiCaprio is almost always good
Even though I hate half the characters he plays, you have to give it up for Joaquin Phoenix. Dude can play a creep better than anyone. His character from "The Master" gave me nightmares.
Natalie Portman token female.
Gary Oldman is another one who only plays weirdos but does it fantastically.

I think Shelley Duvall, Charles Bronson, Sissy Spacek Jonathan Cleese and Tom Hardy are great, but I haven't seen much of them, but I loved what I saw. There is also the kid in Neverending Story 2, Jonathan Brandis. who I thought for sure was going to have an amazing career, to just fall the fuck off the map.

Damn some people on this list i hadnt seen on the screen in so long that they had completely slipped my mind, especially Joe Pesce.
