With how many games MS is cancelling and studios they're closing... just fucking kill Halo and 343 already, Jesus Christ.

These cuts are apparently so far reaching that they're even cutting funding for Romero Games - Yes, John Romero of Doom fame - which is putting their new IP at risk despite MS not even owning the studio.

By the time they're through, what games will Xbox actually have if they're trying to keep Game Pass a thing other than yearly Acti-Blizz slop and old games people could have already owned for cheap?

"Netflix for games" was already going to struggle given the much higher cost and multiple years of development than TV/film. Now? It will be that much harder, if not impossible, because MS obviously doesn't want to invest in games that aren't raking in profits, while also not wanting to divest from woke garbage or DEI infesting every single studio under them that are directly causing failure after financial failure. No one has the balls to address the gay, rainbow elephant in the room, and I suppose that really goes up higher and higher along the ladder to Nadella himself for allowing this clearly detrimental "culture" to persist throughout the company.

Microsoft has truly screwed themselves with their hubris it seems. They are just going all-in on a bunch of shit that nobody seems to want besides their executives apparently. Windows 11 is basically Windows 8 all over again, everyone seems to prefer 10 and their big push to force everyone into 11 has been making people jump ship to Linux or Mac. I know I just recently bought a new daily driver computer and when I did I went with the Mac Mini, the first Mac I have bought in 12 years. Whenever I get a gaming PC next gen I am hoping Steam has their OS all worked out so I can just use Proton on Linux without any issues. Their move to making Office a subscription service has resulted in that basically becoming abandoned by many as a standard with everyone switching over to alternatives. It's like I could go on and on with all their awful bullshit and decisions lately, it's crazy how badly they have been fucking up anything they had going for them.

Yeah I have no idea how anyone could still have any faith in Xbox or optimism for the brand anymore. Seems like every game they have been working on lately has either been looking like shit or cancelled. Just by powering on an Xbox it quickly becomes obvious how they have doubled down hard on the woke bullshit. Whenever I see any developer footage from their studios it's immediately obvious how DEI took them over. They are going all-on on trying to force Gamepass subsctiptions and their cloud streaming gaming, and it seems like everyone is struggling to justify the cost of the subscription when there is hardly anything worthwhile to stay subscribed for. Video game streaming just doesn't seem like it's ever going to become a popular option simply because internet infrastructure and ISP's suck. If it isn't the speed requirements ruining it for everyone it's their data caps, reliability, or desire to own or play games they like and find appealing that aren't a part of the service. It's like they are throwing everything away to chase after ideals highly unlikely and unrealistic to work.

No joke I think the ONLY good thing to come from Xbox lately is THPS 3+4. That game was foolishly killed by the old Activision leadership so I am pretty sure Xbox is the only reason it's releasing soon. Thing is after that releases they got nothing else, and it's a multiplatform game anyways.

Gears of War: E-Day is coming out in 2026 and it actually looks good. The trailer has none of the modern audience stuff to it and they abandoned the girl boss issues in Gears 5. They’re not even doing a Gears 6. They’re doing a prequel with Fenix.

I think a lot of those issues can also be applied to PS5, but I also agree with you. The only thing good for play station and Xbox coming out for either is 3rd party release that are also coming to steam.

The biggest issue with video game streaming is latency. I play with a 1 ms monitor and I’ve gotten so used to it that I can’t play with my Sony x90j anymore bc the x90j tv has 8 ms latency. It’s a fantastic tv (used by Netflix to test and calibrate their shows), but it’s got a slight latency that is VERY noticeable in games. Add in any latency on top of native and you’ve got hella noticeable lag. If someone can get used to telling latency between a tv and a monitor, you’d be able to tell latency over the internet.

Streaming games sounds good in theory but it’s just too slow right now to work with anything that requires real time response.

It's not optimism, it's just that Sony is still so much worse. MS has only just reached the point that Sony was already at 5 years ago. And unlike Sony, MS doesn't really have any "exclusives" to systematically destroy one after another. About the only thing that really sucks on Xbox's side is what has become of Obsidian, but even though DEI is what's finally killing it now, the studio was doomed the moment they forced out Chris Avellone and that happened before MS took over. Xbox is just a console to play third party games that don't suck on. Could do the same with PS5 too I suppose, but my opinion that Dual Sense is complete garbage hasn't changed since the day the PS5 released, and Game Pass is still many miles ahead of PS+.

Yup these gaming industry types love their buzzwords these days. If the audience is highly critical of some big AAA game it's always "review bombing." Meanwhile if a bunch of obvious shills are copying and pasting 10/10's to boost a game's score it's never any sort of issue and apparently just good honest feedback.

It's no wonder they are always so caught off guard these days. Seems like the industry has really favored their optics and spins over any real legitimate feedback. If the audience doesn't like something, well that could only be because the audience is awful and needs to be called names! It's pretty obvious what type of people we have allowed to worm their way into leadership positions and why everything has gone to shit.

Do you prefer the XB elite over the XB base controller? What do you feel about it justifies the $200 cost?

I had a "nice" Xbox One controller, the spec edition ones, and it felt marginally better than the normal XB One default one. Then when I got my XSX in 2022, I noticed that the XBX controllers felt nicer than the XB One spec edition ones. So I just never upgraded. I think the default XSX controllers are fantastic. I use it for my gaming pc and my xsx.

Yeah Xbox controllers have become my default PC controllers for obvious reasons. I actually always kept my original Xbox One Elite controller plugged in with USB for PC gaming duty. I eventually got the second gen Elite much later and use that as my main controller on my Series X. Honestly I'd say it's not a big deal as I was using the standard Xbox Series controller for years and always loved the way it felt. I think the only real benefit to the Elite over the standard is just the way you can increase the resistance to the analog sticks, I have them set in the middle setting and it gives the sticks a fantastic feel IMO. Outside of that it's only the underside paddles. I always removed the small ones and moved the big ones a slot up so they sit a bit higher in the grip, seems to give it great ergonomics and I like the way you can program those paddles to being R3 and L3. I usually just swap between that and R1 and L1 for them so I don't need to keep 4 fingers up on the triggers and bumpers for games that demand them a lot.

Only drawback I think is the way they removed the programmable media button for a swap control programming button. So if you take screenshots or video clips it's kind of a pain in the ass with an Elite controller as that requires you to use the quick menu for those functions. I think that's the one area where Sony really came up with a better design with their Edge controller, they managed to keep their media button with those two programming buttons behind the analog sticks. That and the replacable analog sticks for the Edge is a cool feature, but they lack the adjustability.
