If they have no competition it gives them a lot of flexibility in performance and pricing.
if PS wanted to stay competitive they’d offer free online multiplayer. That ain’t gonna happen and it drives more and more people like me to pc. This console gen is the last gen I’m buying a console

The online pay fee is easy money for them. Totally agree though. It's absolutely horseshit.

Anyone can already buy a pre built entry level gaming PC from Cyberpower, Starforge, etc for $1000ish. You know whatever XBox slaps together for $1200 will be full of bloatware, will underperform compared to a similarly priced gaming PC, and will probably be hard to mod. If that's really the plan it's asinine. Pick a lane, Console or PC. If they spend billions of dollars trying to create some kind of hybrid, that will be a complete disaster.

Usually that means prices go waaay up. Not down?
Yes but if they are the only game in town they don't have to put expensive cutting edge tech in. Which means they can actually make a profit on a normally priced item.

What they are going to realize is no one wants a console without it's own dedicated OS. Otherwise they will just buy a PC. This is how incredibly out of touch and stupid Sarah Bond is.

Knowing this is like being able to breathe and walk at the same time in the industry.

They are especially not going to pay for a mid tier PC with an Xbox sticker on it leveraging 2 broken as fuck apps in Gamebar and PC Xbox App under a hacked knee Windows 11 OS. If customers are going that route they can build out their own mid tier gaming PC for cheaper and just use Steam big picture mode and be done with it.

People buy consoles for exclusive titles and plug and play design with an intuitive UI navigated from a couch with a controller. What is even more hilarious is Microsoft thinks they are not selling 1st party titles because of it's market reach, when in reality no one is playing their 1st party titles because they are mediocre fucking garbage which was proven by Starfield and reinforced with shit like Avowed and Outer Worlds 2 showing 15 year regression in development techniques, and as a result of that are also not buying their console either. That doesn't even touch on the subject of how many ads and bloat they have thrown into the UI on the Series X combined with an overpriced shit tier subscription service that carries no value along with their paywalls.

It's hilarious watching common sense fly over their heads as they continue to look for scapegoats to justify their fucking jobs.

Has the ps5 pro even sold well? It’s marked insanely high.
think it might hit the norm of 10-15% for elite consoles. supposedly the ps5 era won't end for 2 years after ps6 comes out, some estimates guess about 12million 5pro with 100-110 million ps5.

If they're the only game in town they don't have to price it "normally". I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume they'd try and maximize profits instead

Didn't Alienware try this and fail?

Yeah but it was pretty half baked back then. The hardware just wasn't powerful enough at affordable prices and they became as expensive as gaming PC's to have something capable, and that was also long before Steam had their Steam OS so it was just a Windows client with big picture mode at best. I wouldn't really hold that up as anything that could be related to anything going on today.

It amazes me how there is actually some people excited about next gen consoles relatively soon.

The next gen console consumer base:

The only thing keeping MS its current Desktop OS position is A) Windows ubiquity; Market inertia. It's the same thing that kept Intel as the biggest chipmaker FOREVER, until they weren't. Now, MS has multiple standards that aren't going anywhere, Office, Windows, Azure, etc, and the Services as connective tissue that ties them all together. They are so lazy on the Desktop/gaming OS front, though, it wouldn't take much to push them off that perch.

Part of the reason the next XBOX will run Steam is so that Valve won't release its own desktop OS, for gaming or ANYTHING Else.
