You left out the part where the actor playing Rip gained like 30lbs over the 'break that might have been the end' and had to wear coats/jackets etc to try and hide the weight. I laughed my ass off at that every time I saw it.
It was 'ok' 5/10 for what it was. They tried making egg salad out of broken eggs after KC fucked them all. Should have just left that season off all together. Perfectly glad its over.

I stopped watching this absolute dumpster fire when Kayce had his fucking vision quest, which I think was the finale of season 3? At which point Jamie was hardly a POS, just a victim of Beth's constant abuse and too desperate for (not) Daddy's approval/guilty over that unbelievably fucking retarded abortion clinic bullshit to stand up to Beth. He was basically Tyrion Lannister but in the hands of a far less capable writer.
I'm not the least bit surprised they had him go full on villain but it's a shame they had to make him completely fucking retarded in the process.

The Beth character is Taylor Sheridan's achilles heel, he puts one in most shows and they're so retarded. They would get punched in the face constantly if they acted like that in the real world, or killed. Sheridan really loves the tough-as-nails fighter chicks that take nobody's shit though.

Beth does get her ass beaten ragged at least twice that I remember and has her life saved by Rip both times. I don't actually hate Beth (at least up through the three seasons I watched), it's Sheridan's relentless simping for the culture of worthless tone age savages that puts me off and that's the heart of the conflict between Jamie and Beth. I mean maybe it's actually possible that an abortion clinic you picked randomly and know nothing about will perform an abortion and sterilization on an obviously underaged girl with basically no questions asked but Sheridan wasn't pushing an anti-abortion message, he was pushing some "oh look at these awful things that have been done to these noble people" bullshit and in that propagandizing context it's even more retarded that they'd sterilize a WHITE girl.

Jamie is supposed to be the beta pussy archetype, while Rip is the country badass that you're supposed to want to be like. The Beth character just doesn't exist in real life. The Beth in the show does get her ass beat a couple of times, but it should have been in like half the scenes she was in.

My memory is fuzzy but iirc they specifically ask Jamie something and he says to go ahead. I'm pretty sure he gave them the go-ahead to do the ligation which is why he tolerates Beth's abuse for so long, not because he's a pussy but because he feels guilty about what he did to her even though he didn't understand what he was agreeing to. Or at the very least not only because he's a pussy.
But that whole event is such a concatenation of utter nonsense that it could only happen in a writer's room.
