The Trese brothers have never disappointed me and I think their graphics are charming.
Low budget doesn't mean bad. What's there is clean and well done, I'd just like to see what they could do with a AAA budget. I've barely started, but I like the options and diversity in the tactical missions. Unlike Zcom's simplistic arena battles, where the only interesting option is "how many enemies can I yeet off the map?"

I have to admit the yeeting off the map is one of the best features in the game - so satisfying to have some elite unit come out and you just toss it's ass off into the abyss

The problem is it's the packaging that makes the game "decent". Take away the Star Wars IP, the voice acting, the snazzy UE graphics and animations, and what's left? An indie game that no one would have noticed. The actual game, both the base building, and the tactical missions, just fall short when compared to X-com, Gears Tactics, Phoenix Point, etc.
There is a lot of truth in this statement. Without the SW shit going on, im afraid this would be a total dud. But, its in there and the SW shit gives it a charm.

and 2012 X-Com probably would have flopped if it was just some random strategy game without the X-Com name.

the biggest bummer about most of the devs being furloughed is we probably won't get the steady stream of QoL patches nor any big DLCs, even though this game seems to have sold pretty decently. all around a real shame.

i'll pick this up on a deep sale and really enjoy it i think, but there isn't any real rush to play esp given the studio turmoils.

There are already mods coming out on Nexis - if people can make xcom level options, it will give the game some legs

Xcom had mod support, this doesn't, technically. Some guy found a Mod Studio app the devs left in the game files and put it on Nexus, but there's not a whole lot you can do with it gameplay-wise, basically just generating a json that lets you switch skills around between classes. The guy who makes the Full Customization mod is gonna be putting up an SDK him and another guy have been working on, that should open up some more options, but I don't know all the details yet.

Not sure how much you can really do with these tiny maps that are just a bunch of squares and rectangles thrown around. Err, cubes and whatever 3 dimensional rectangles are called.

There's also a mod called "Aftermath" that you install like right before the final fight and it skips the Epilogue and let's you keep going for like 1000 missions, some with customized bosses and recruitable heroes like Anakin and Rex, etc.
