CohhCarnage is going to pick up his play through of the game in about 5 minutes. I'm not going to buy the game so watching the train wreck with thousands of other people is pretty fun.

Ye of little faith, EA is poised and ready to give exclusive swag to "new, demographically connected reviewers with a critical eye for social justice in video games".

I started over from the beginning last night since there was still time on the EA Access preview and I wanted to see the difference from doing vs not doing the optional missions.

Anywho, they do actually address the reason you start out going to Habitat 7, but its almost a throwaway line so its easy to miss. After they came out of hyperspace (or whatever we're calling how ships move around without Mass Relays) they mention that they are going to Habitat 7 as standard protocol when they haven't been able to contact the Nexus or the other arks.

I bet Nintendo is so happy that this game has taken all focus off the Switch issues. GG Bioware, I hardly knew ye.

This guy just streamed the ending. It's...umm...lol.

Of course they'd manage to make a more underwhelming ending than ME3!! I dunno how I thought they'd learn from that clusterfuck.

Seriously what in the actual fuck. Even the post-climax banter is cringey....and if that's the final battle then it's as good a representation of the rest of the combat gameplay as anything, and I don't see how anyone can say that the gameplay from the first 10 hours was ever gonna improve.

If only picking lottery numbers was as easy as predicting how this would all play out. Who didn't see this coming from a mile away? Gamergate will most likely be the scapegoat for anything negative said about this game from here on out.

Ahahhahaha. Yeah look at all the hordes of gamergaters shitting on Horizon: New Dawn you guys!!! It's all just shitlords shitlording on the internet, they just can't handle cucknormative genderpositivity in dey vidya!

Yeah, I know it's almost fucking SACRILEGOUS to compare this fucking abomination to Horizon:New Dawn, but that game is fucking full-on Julie Bindel-tier feminazi propaganda and you have the exact shame gamergate shitlords SHILLING IT who are dropping turdnukes on ME:A.

That's because its not a shit game.

Got to end of trial. Uninstalled. Too few bright moments in the fog of mediocrity that is this game. Anyone giving this above a 75% rating (and I'm being generous) is straight trippin.

lol. I really hope they were going for drunk with that animation. The rest of the animation has been so shitty I'm ready to apply Poe's Law to this.
My thought too, that it was a drunk animation accidentally applied to some rando NPC.

It's not a bad animation of what people who have never gotten drunk think drunk people move like.

Shew. Good grief. Welp, I'm happy and sad.

Sad because I wanted a new ME game. Not a stinking pile of garbage that they're trying to sell us. Happy because maybe this will teach them to stop making open world games with fetch quests and writing so thin as to be sheer.

They tried to make DAI again. That won't work. Focus on the story.

EDIT : I mean, I'll give them that they were working out the kinks to a new engine in DAI. Sure. But this? No, not when they slapped an entirely different coat of paint on it and called it ME. That's the reason why I think DAI got such high reviews. That and being released in a time when not much else was being released.

of course he has sub mode on, and not only because of spoilers.

Watched TB stream the first parts of the game yesterday, and his opinion up to Eos was that it wasn't as bad as people claimed it was (it isn't the worst game ever made). It is, as I mentioned before, a game that is especially scrutinized due to the ties to the studio and IP. As a new game from a new studios first game (which it appears to be by the tweet from TB), it would end up in the 60-75% range.

That said, he had to quit the stream at Eos because of massive FPS issues. Not everyone has that issue (I didn't), but he got hit with long loading times and the FPS issues were very severe considering his rig. Got it to above 60 when he changed to low settings, but graphically that was very bad. He also noticed a very strange thing that changing some individual graphics settings required a full game restart in ME:A, while other games developed in the same engine does not need to do that. So it was very hard for him to change settings on the fly to see what actually caused the performance drops.

I am torn with this game. On one hand, bad development should be punished with bad sales, but I'd really like a new good Mass Effect game. Hopefully sales will indicate a much lower volume than expected, but enough to make them realize their mistake and go full on A team studio for the next one and not just cancel the franchise. Enough sales to indicate that there is a want for the franchise, but not done by their C "potato" team.

And boardroom suits don't care about "games" they look at the numbers and don't really care where they came from. Like the Bethesda thing.

Obsidian missed Fallout: New Vegas Metacritic bonus by one point

Business sucks, alright? It's cold and rigid and occasionally unfair. Such is the case with Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas contract with Bethesda, wherein the developer only received royalties if the game matched or exceeded an 85 rating on Metacritic. Leaving aside the fact that Metacritic is a woefully unbalanced aggregation of review scores from both vetted and unvetted publications, agreements like this can leave indie studios -- like Obsidian -- in the lurch should that Metacritic score just barely miss the mark.

Unfortunately for Obsidian, Fallout: New Vegas currently has a Metacritic average of 84, a single point below the average that would've earned the company royalties on its product. "[Fallout: New Vegas] was a straight payment, no royalties, only a bonus if we got an 85+ on Metacritic, which we didn't," Obsidian creative director and co-owner Chris Avellone told one Twitter user.

The Metacritic news comes just one day after we reported layoffs at the California-based developer -- layoffs that were said to be the result of a canceled next-gen project (codenamed "North Carolina") for an unnamed console. New Vegas lead producer Jason Fader's Facebook profile reflects the recent layoffs, also outing himself as former lead producer on the North Carolina project. His credentials also list an unnamed project known as "Vermont," but that could be Obsidian's upcoming South Park RPG (we've reached out for clarification).

So I got to the final end point of the trial, did the side missions, and some multiplayer.

Verdict: 2/10.

About the only thing they did well were the world environments. Which some look like they were cut right out of SWTOR.

Everything else from the animations, story, dialogue, reply options (I mean holy shit.... I think I heard "OK LETS DO THIS!" about 56 times over the course 4 hours with the trial over a couple days) shitty combat (Feedback on hits is ridiculous) the absolutely horrid UI and AI, HORRIBLE, and I mean down right horrible voice acting (The only voice acting that is even close to passable is Ryder and the Ship voice itself when it is explaining how the initiative was started. Everything else, and it isn't even Hyperbole, is so God Awful there were times I just wanted to turn off my Xbox One and be done with it) The Multiplayer working with the single player was decent enough for resource gathering and ship upgrades, etc - but the entire system is weighed down on rewards because guess what? EA Microtransactions in the multiplayer. What is even more hilarious was a thought for a second I would see different mission types because of the mission descriptions (When tied into the single player) but nope... All it is is a horde mode every single time and the mobs at silver level are just bullet sponges and the entire mode is HORRIBLY overtuned to the point where you will need to buy things from the Microtransaction shop immediately if you want to stand a chance.

Seriously on top of everything else wrong with the game, they twisted the knife with that last one.

This all seems like some social experiment or market test. And unfortunately, they completely ruined the Mass Effect IP and anything with Bioware on the box. I will never be purchasing another Bioware title ever again after this train wreck.

A new game from a new studio wouldn't have 40 million dollars to blow on it, either.
