Each kill restores some deadeye. The higher the core, the more you get back each kill.

But for what it’s worth, snake oil was easy to make. Tobacco was everywhere.

Ok Dutch!

“Ok” and “Hey there mister!” may be two of my favorite pieces of spoken dialogue in a video game ever.

I imitate it all the time with my wife and kids lol!

"Hey there, mister" cracks me up. Just got done murdering and looting, but I'm like the nicest neighbor in town!

I never really mess with Challenges or 100% completion, so I can’t really comment here.

What I disliked about the challenges were the timed challenges. It seemed antithetical to a game as beautifully designed as this. I suppose it made sense for some missions, but on others, I wanted to linger a bit and look around because they did such an amazing job detailing the world. Having a challenge be to complete it in x amount of time felt like a waste

After that they should release an Undead Nightmare DLC that incorporates the entire game world.

I really loved the Undead Nightmare DLC. I kept thinking about it as I played through RDR2. It would be great it someone designed a whole game built around gothic horror, but made it an open world/story driven game like this one. I kept imagining riding through the woods at night and being ambushed by werewolves. They absolutely nailed the environmental effects here. A game like this, set in New England in the 1700s would be creepy as fuck. Give me that game

As for the disappointment that the old RDR areas weren’t used, I think it’s wonderful that they are there. A lot of good memories in those areas. Seeing them in 4K has been a delight. If I had to do any of those areas with Arther, I would have felt they were being lazy. If you really want to play those areas, fire up RDR again. Plenty of things to do. The game is still a fantastic game with an amazing story line.

.

I loved that the map was there. I didn't even mind that there was no story there and that it really just opened up after everything was wrapped up; that's kind of a neat concept: "hey, you're done the game, but look at all this shit you haven't seen yet". But they should at least populate it with people and random events. Just an extension of the random shit you come across in the other areas. It feels so empty and sterile is all I'm saying.

The story - Just one more heist. I rolled my eyes every time I'd start a mission with a new character and then Dutch pops in...oh nevermind Reverend Swanson, I'm going on a heist with Dutch.

Blackwater - It just got pointed out how disappointing that there was no conclusion there. Why? Weird foreshadowing of something that never ends up happening.

The "one more heist" thing got across the idea that deep down, Dutch had no fucking idea what he was doing and that he just somehow swindled his way into being head of the gang. But I agree at some point, it almost turned into parody. A minor gripe though. But I felt like Dutch's decent into assholishness was believable and really well done.
Another thing they did well was contrast them with the swanky rich people in the party scenes. I thought it was great that, up until that point, Dutch was seen as a leader and almost untouchable, but when he was thrown in with the upper echelon of society, it was apparent he was just a bumpkin fish out of water. It was a neat little character touch

An Undead Nightmare DLC with a reanimated Arthur as the protagonist might be fun.

Fair enough but it did venture into parody land and it's basically a meme at this point. That speaks volumes. But there was a point pretty early on where I was like, why the fuck are we drawing attention to ourselves YET again?

Dutch walking out on Arthur seemed a little bit out of character to me as well. He had JUST saved Arthur from certain death the mission before (I think).

Again, these are nitpicks, and I enjoyed the game enough to finish it. But to me, it's flawed in too many ways to be a masterpiece. To those that think it's perfect, I'm happy you feel that way and I'm glad you got the experience you wanted.

At the same time, the fact we're picking apart the story this way must say something about the level of story telling. Everything else was so well done that the inconsistencies stick out. Take a game like Spiderman; lots of people loved it and thought it was one of the best games on the system. but I really haven't heard as much talk about characterizations or plot points. Rockstar raised the level so far that anything that would normally just blend into the background sticks out as being subpar. There are a few things I don't like about the game, but all the stuff I do like really puts it head and shoulders above anything else this year

And I did point out complaints about the controls, gameplay and pacing.

Probably best to just agree to disagree. It’s great. I liked GoW more.

Man, GoW was great. I'd agree that it boils down to personal preference at that level. I loved both games, but I loved RDR a little bit more. That's most likely because I love westerns, we don't see very many games in that genre, almost all of the ones that do come out are sub-par, which results in me jonesing for western games. GoW was pretty much perfect though, and RDR2 did miss in a few areas.

Witcher 3 was great too. The DLC for it may have been even better. So far those three make up my games of this console generation.

GoW is my game of the year. The Guarma area made me realize the majority of missions in RDR2 are just riding a horse or walking for about a mile and then a shootout. It's pretty much rinse and repeat with a little variation thrown in. I love RDR2, but I like the gameplay of GoW more. The stories in both games are about even for me and are really great.

Yeah, I loved the game (probably my favorite video game story) but there was a little bit too much of "ride here, kill everyone" to the missions. I think, in general for the game, they should have tried to innovate a little more in the actual gameplay aspects.

I'm still only in the beginning of Chapter 3, but I have to say, this may very well be my favorite roleplaying game ever. Not in the sense of any of the mechanics we'd usually associate with RPGs, but in how effective it is in making you slip into actually playing the role of a cowboy/gunslinger/outlaw in the Old West and immersing you in that role.

God, I need more games like this.

Even if they structured the missions more like the big bank heist. It still had the general structure, but felt more fleshed out and there were story repercussions during the mission rather than before or after, so it seemed more integrated

Some critiques are valid but most I think veer towards personal choices. Which is fine. I love Westerns so I'm going to be predisposed towards RDR2. With that said anyone saying that there is issues with the game because everything revolves around riding horses and killing people, get the fuck out of here as you're a goddamn moron.

Go fuck yourself. People having reasonable discussion and you come in with your verbal diarrhea shitting on people for disagreeing.

My least favorite poster on this forum by a mile.
