I'm not trying to argue with you, man. Just giving my opinion because i agree with some of your points

I hear you. I’m just amazed how many people take criticism of a video game so personally (not you).

It’s weird.

I cannot get into Online. I play for 10 minutes, get bored and turn it off. Anyone else?

nope, i'm the same. if you finish up the first 1-2 intro quests you have a bit more freedom, from Online you can queue up for PVP matches or horse races and both are pretty decent (albeit suffering from all the control issues, magnified x10 since there isn't anything else to distract you) but I'm not sure why I'd play RDR Online instead of Fortnite, Forza, GT Sport, BLOPS, Battlefield, etc instead of a neutered western themed sandbox.

its missing all the goals in GTA 5 like owning a house, business, heists, etc. i'm sure they will add that stuff over time but it makes for a boring ass game now.

This is in my favourite games of all time list, red dead redemption 1 is as well.

TLDR; I love this game, understand the complaints, share some/many of them, however the game is so good that the complaints do nothing.

Many of the gameplay complaints could be made about other “masterpieces”, it really is personal preference. I just understand why some people found the horse thing annoying;

What I don’t understand is why I don’t. Very, very rarely do I find going to and fro tedious in this game. Yes I wish there was a recipe to use some herbs and pelts to make a fast travel item to rerun home, maybe tie it to a long cool down.

There are a lot of things in this game I wish were slightly different, almost all of them are “more” instead of “less” or “not at all”

I thought The Witcher 1 and 3 sucked, I can’t play 1 for more than an hour before the combat makes just everything about the game a tedious tucking chore, in 3 I found everything to be tedious and boring. The combat in 3 bored me to fuck, the controls annoyed the hell out of me, and there are other things I can go on about.

Sometimes, usually akchtually, it is the little things that make or break a “flawed/masterpiece” into just another “good/great but not superb” game in people’s eyes. Or that turns it into a steaming pile of shot they can’t understand the hype over, I feel that way about Destiny and Overwatch.

I get, understand, and respect everyone’s complaints about this game. You feel about it the way I do Witcher 3, just not as passionately because that’s just how I express myself.

This is 9.5/10 game for me, my complaints do nothing to detract from the enjoyment I have in this game. The wonkey control schemes, the senselessness to some of the control decisions, the horse being fucking retarded, the outfit system is fucking terrible too.

Seriously, making custom outfits is tedious, annoying, and the way the game handles outfits saved on your horse is shameful. Why the fuck does the game overwrite my choices with new ones just because my hat got shot off and I either grabbed the wrong one or found a new one? Why is that a new custom outfit on my horse? Where the fuck did my Grizzlies Outlaw/Winter Outfit go? Why did that get removed for a hatless version of whatever outfit I was wearing when I switched hats?

The guns that should be on my back being left on my horse is pants on head.

Accidentally aiming my gun at people I just saved because I didn’t reholster immediately after shooting 3 outlaws is pants on head.

Yet none of these things detract from the game for me, they are just issues and complaints. The good is just that good.

I am not going to go into my feelings about the online mode, maybe it’s because I have no friends but I just don’t get it. The whole thing seems pointless to me but I feel that way about most multiplayer games that aren’t ether fully rpg based or purely focused on one gameplay aspect (shooters, card games, etc). I also have no interest in open world games with free for all pvp, getting killed in Blackwater by other players while trying to start a story quest was not fun it was just annoying and made me want to not play.

I solidified with Brando because I agree with his sentiment about the game, not him calling dissenters faggots though I do love that we can call each other that here, you fags, but the overall sentiment about how the things some of you dislike do nothing to detract from the game for me, personally.

Then again, like I said. I hate The Witcher 3, and I own it on PC AND ps4. Bought the pc version on a steam sale to see how it ran and looked on my new computer. It looked and ran damn well. Shame I just can’t get into it. I see why people like it, I just can’t like it myself.

Go fuck yourself. People having reasonable discussion and you come in with your verbal diarrhea shitting on people for disagreeing.

My least favorite poster on this forum by a mile.

You can have your opinion, doesn’t change the fact you are a moron. A game with a Western theme and your critique is horse travel? Say that out loud to yourself with a straight face, seriously.

You got the wrong cowboy motherfucker.

I think I made a suggestion that smoke signals and specialty wagons would have been cooler than riding back and forth with a single carcass but whatever. If all you got from that is me complaining about horsies than you truly are a stupid asshole (but that was never in doubt). I've openly acknowledged it's a good-great game and almost all of my complaints have been about the mechanics and the repetitive nature and the holes in the narrative. But you think I'm mad about horsies.

I'm sorry I criticized your girlfriend.

The stats for weight are reversed in the Online version, when you are at the minimum weight your stamina drain is red and your damage absorb is white. That is the exact opposite of how it is in single player.

Confused the hell out of me why I was gaining so much weight then the game tells me I am at the minimum.

Edit: I got shot 20feet from a cop in Saint Denis, fucker didn’t even move. I had a 4 NPC posse on me for killing an alligator outside of Saint Denis once, saw the exact same thing happen to another player 10 seconds after I died.

Yet, there are no consequences to ganking players selling to the butcher?

This online mode has a long way to go. That or I just don’t get it.

I’d say it has a long way to go. I’ve encountered several bugs that I imagine weren’t easy to catch without stressed server capacity and bandwidth.

I doubt I’ll be playing Online much until they add more lucrative events or bring the prices down to sane levels. I doubt they’ll adjust the prices, but the story seems to end at 75% for now, so it could be that you get a ton of cash when you finish 100% like in story mode.

Did a whole day yesterday and had a lot of fun. The game really tries to ruin it though.

Our major sources of frustration:

Very vague descriptions on things. Mission choices (in the fine tradition of mass effect), matchmaking (do I get random asshats or not? That's what I want to know).

Group bugs reminiscent of early EQ. Lots of leaving and reforming and restarting and suddenly the camp is across the map.

Any event that causes a load screen throws away whatever was on your horse. (farewell pelts)

My horse plotting with local wolves to throw me off at the worst time. (farewell pelts)

Grouping up on treasure hunts means one person gets it and the other has to leave / join / restart 20 times before the chest appears again. (farewell pelts)

Horrible combat. Jumpy laggy jittery aiming that is far too fast with small movements causing you to zip past the targets, and far too slow in the fast movements making it take half a minute to turn. This is mostly my fault for not playing with the settings, but the defaults are pants-on-head.

The cover system is super janky. I actually argued with a friend that there even is a cover system. He'd finished single player and never noticed it. When you somehow manage to get in the right spot it works well.

Constant battle with the follow cam. It seems to really want you to see the sky. The sky is beautiful, but I'd kind of like to avoid hitting a tree. Note that this battle involves using my left index finger to move the camera because I have to use my thumb for X to keep my horse going. Brilliant controls.

Activation areas are super inconsistent and weird. Because your character / horse doesn't immediately stop or even turn when you want, you end up in this endless back and forth dance trying to hitch a horse or use a chair or whatever.

And yes, the controls. Tap here, press and hold there. It reminds me of mandarin where the same word can mean 10 different things depending on the pitch. It is all terrible but I hesitate to even mention it because I have no suggestions for improving it. Controllers are shit, there's just no way around it. And when the game comes to pc we can just bind everything to keys or mouse buttons and it will all work fine (as long as the port is good).

And even if the port is awful the SkyUI person will fix it.

Even with all the problems, it is still a good time. On pc with a mouse, private servers, and a few dozen mods and it will be serious game of the year potential.

But how do you feel about riding horses? None of these complaints mentioned riding horses which is obviously what everyone is bitching about and makes everyone who complains about this game stupid.

One person criticized you for this, one. Brando, a known fucking retard, and here you are making his opinion out like it has some value.

All you are doing is giving his opinion weight, stop it.

I, personally, like riding from place to place but I more than understand why you/others wouldn’t like it and agree that a very limited fast return system would have been nice.

Stop giving the potatoes power, stop feeding them.

Shit, we can’t even make a decent vodka out if them.

Here are some on my so called legit gripes about the game;

Why the fuck do I have to put my gun away to threaten people? Why does the context menu change if my gun is out?

Why do the trapper outfits make my hair and beard disappear?

Why isnt hair and beard growth, and thus hair tonics, not a thing in online?

Why does your horse run into trees, rocks, trains, other horses, etc while you are aiming at a bird?

Why the hell isnt there a limited fast return system?

Why are all the outfits fugly?

Why don’t the challenges reward outfits?

Why are there so few upgrades? Why are the ones available obtainable so early making the upgrade system trivial?

Why are there so many turkeys around and why is kicking them so satisfying?

Grizzly Bears are demons made flesh in online.

Why does every other NPC have access to cooler coats than me?

Arthur has blue eyes, Abigail has blue eyes, John has brown eyes, and I can’t tell if Jack has brown or blue eyes and that annoys me because I can’t figure out who his father is and if Jack’s eyes are brown than he isn’t Arthur’s.

Why does the game never tell you that you hang two small carcasses off the side of your horse in addition to the large corpse/pelt you can carry?

Why wasn’t there a more involved system of upgrading belts, holsters, saddles, the actual tacking, etc through pelt collecting?

Why can’t you add stirrups to the tanner saddles? You are stuck at base speed with those saddles though they do appear to provide better core statistics.

Why are the personal requests so random seeming, in my third play through (my second was bugged with the Marston/Adler bug so I had to restart early in chapter 2) Dutch never asked for a pipe even though in my previous two outings he asked for one early in chapter 2?

The way the game handles weapons on the horse is pants on head, I want to keep those weapons on my back and if I wanted to store them on my horse I would use the unprovided option to do so.

Why does the game keep switching my offhand and primary holstered weapons?

Where does my semi auto shotgun keep disappearing to?

Why can’t I clean named guns at the gun smith?

TIps;

You can use poisoned throwing knives for the bear challenge.

When you have to rob 50$ from random people, try to save that for when you first go to Sant Denis. You will get pickpocketed by someone in a store and recovering your money counts as robbbing them

For the clean train robberies you only need to jump on the coal car, stop the train, loot a can of beans (or whatever) and run like hell.

Your horse is fucking retarded, it will do related things and you will suffer for it.

Micah is a cunt and Dutch is obviously gay for him.

Take off your mask and holster you guns before going upstairs for the gun shop robbery. You might be able to get away with it with out alerting the cops as it your gunshot on the guard that alerts them, not his on you.

There is a robbery event in Strawberry, under the general store look in the window. I didn’t get this one shown to me (by a prisoner I helped escape) until well into the epilogue.

In the epilogue visit the general store in Rhodes.
