I wouldn’t consider two simultaneous squads being any different than current. Just need to up the scope and scale ala long war, 6-8 squad members is the sweet spot for these games IMO, at least if they’re class based, and then certain big story missions increase to 10-12.

While Control's point is fair, at the same time details like this are what can make a game really stand out, as opposed to feeling like generic slop. I'd keep the faces if you're willing to do the work to get them all looking good. As for which of these options I like better, I think Option 1...

I’m never sure how to feel about real-time tile-based. Always seems wrong, I’m not sure why real-time is viewed as a good upgrade from turn based while maintaining a tile-based movement and map system. I wish Grimrock had been turn based, actually.
