It's worth having one or two Pro controllers. They are high quality, comfortable, and have a ridiculous 80 hours of life on a full charge. I agree that the gamepad is surprisingly nice and a lot more comfortable than it looks, but the pro controller is just a little bit more all-around perfect.

I don't get these -- they are basically a novelty memory stick or DLC?

The Pro Controllers are bluetooth, though.

I am 100% sure it does not need line of sight. Nintendo forums suggest that certain wall materials and electronic interference limit the range.

The Pro controller is a really nice controller and worth the money. It also holds a charge for a very long time. The Motion Plus controllers are necessary for certain games, but they aren't as fun to play with. Some people seem to do very well with them in the steering wheel, though.

I wouldn't spend a whole lot more time judging the console or maximizing the deal. Unless you hate Nintendo IP, you can't go wrong with the WiiU. The gameplay is awesome, and you are guaranteed to start off with two 10/10 or 9/10 games.

They are handy for securing place if you get them towards the end of a final lap. They let you go off-road without penalty, too.
