I'm rather curious, StoiCynic, how's the economy on Gilgamesh compared to Jenova?

Common sense? Poker tournaments have similar rules for people throwing matches. It's easy to call someone out on bullshit.

Just because you can't stop it all the time doesn't mean you shouldn't try. Especially at a high level event like the Pro Tour that wants to be taken seriously. Yes, you're not going to stop it at every GP or SCG Open, but that's not the point. The Olympics can't and don't stop every incidence...

    Final Fantasy VII Remake

If I recall correctly, Vaan and Penelo weren't in the game for a long time. In fact I believe Basch was the main character? Anyway, it didn't focus group well so Vaan and Penelo were added to be more relatable to the people playing the game.

I'm glad Efro didn't get Player of the Year after LSV conceded to him. At lower levels of play I do agree that policing match fixing isn't the most feasible. However at the Pro Tour, that kind of blatant match fixing should not be happening, especially in a close race like this year's Player of...

Isn't that pretty much every MMO ever? At least with FFXIV I know there will be a steady stream of updates that have new content.

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

Alexander normal now drops four items for each fight instead of two, so that is good. Also, changes to red scrips are coming next week. From the sounds of it, collecting the scrips will be easier and the weekly cap will be raised. Still doesn't fix the fundamental problems but will at least...

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

Yeah, it is more or less confirmed that Good procs for level 60 crafts are much less. That isn't too big of a deal I suppose, except Heart of the Crafter costs 45 CP and you are not guaranteed a Good proc off of it. Even if it made Good 100% of the time, that means you only get to use it 4 times...

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

Perhaps, but the point of specializations is to make it so you don't need to have multiple Disciples of the Hand leveled. It has failed that goal miserably.

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

I have, and I still don't like using it and haven't had issues HQing. That is besides the point, even assuming that Innovative Touch is awesome, specialists still don't give an appreciable boost.
  11. Xalara

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

The skill is OK. I prefer just using Hasty Touch since I feel that 80% success rate is much better than 70% plus most of the time Byregot's Blessing will get you to 100%, negating the need for Innovative Touch.
  12. Xalara

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

Also, specializations are all but useless. Heart of the Crafter can fail completely and doesn't do all that much. Nymea's Wheel restores 30 durability max, letting Whistle While You Work run out only progress a small amount and can even fail. If Heart of the Crafter didn't cost any CP to use...

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

Pyros, have you given any thought to melding the Chimerical crafter gear to get min stats for two star then overmeld CP? I don't think you need tier four materia for it either. It still doesn't change the fact that the high end crafting is fucked. I can see it sort of being feasible if you...

Not surprising, most people will need esoteric gear to do it. I am happy the first encounter is a hard DPS check, means it'll be very easy to weed out the people who suck at being DPS, which unfortunately is most of them.

As a new'ish crafter with only 1.1 million gil to my name, I can't help but feel demoralized when I look at the requirements for the two star recipes. The logical side of my brain is telling me to wait and see until Thursday, but I can't help but feel like crafting the new two star stuff is...

As for casual-ness: I'd say FFXIV is more casual in the sense that the dungeons can be easier, but everything such as crafting and gathering, it is much more hardcore than WoW.

Basically it goes like this: - Pre-level 50 storyline is OK, but slow and feels like the after thought it was while they rebuilt the entire game from scratch after the disaster of the first version. - 2.1 - 2.4 storyline is much better than the pre-level 50 storyline but still has a lot of...

Stoneskin is useful in the following situations: 1) Start of the fight, in these cases usually a WHM will just Stoneskin II. 2) When someone dies or is otherwise weakened and you know they can't take the next party wide attack without Stoneskin (see floor's three and four of Alexander when...

The experience buf is 100% from 0-50, and 50% from 50-60. This is all contingent on you already having a high level class.

Well, after complaining I managed to get Bismarck EX down last night. Ravana EX seems easier but that might be Bismarck EX acting as a filter. Also got my Weaver to 60 last night. Cost me 1.2 million Gil to get a full HQ set of level 60 BiS gear but it is done and now I am poor. Anyone got...

Well, for Bismarck EX I am finally at the point where I going to start kicking people that don't know how to DPS. Issue is, Square-Enix looks down on people who use parsers to kick. Bismarck EX is not even a gear check, it can be beaten in ilvl 160. The problem is that most DPS in this game are complete morons. I am a bit bitter since I've been trying to beat it for the past week, but have been tripped up by a constant parade of crappy DPS being outdamaged by the tanks.

I thought that was crafter materia only that wasn't in the game? I understood that disciples of war got grade five materia. As for combining grade four and getting lucky you are right. I combined 500k worth of grade four and got nothing.

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

Does anyone have any idea what ilvl gear is required to get grade five materia? I know back in 2.X ilvl 45-50 gear spiritbonded very fast with a 10% chance to give grade four materia.

Actually SE has been pretty clear about the next relic weapon. 1) You do not need to do any of the previous relic weapon to start the new one. 2) If you made it to a certain point with the old relic (Zeta?) then you will be able to skip Y steps with the new relic weapon.

Fates scale up depending on how many people completed the last one. So since there were a bunch of people in the beginning zones the fates were ridiculous. I will agree the story so far has been awesome. Well except the Uldah part.

I think the expectation is that most people aren't crazy and power levelling so they will be doing the roulette on the side, which over several days of playing, adds up.

Yeah, you can definitely transmute grave five materia into grade five, but what about grade four into grade five? Previously there was a small chance of getting a higher level materia.

The biggest issue I've had so far is that Square-Enix's DirectX 11 only tesselation algorithm sucks. If the camera moves to any sort of shallow angle you get all sorts of weird visual distortions. Looks amazing at a distance, though.

In terms of getting experience, if you're post 50 just do the main quest. Pre-50 just queue for dungeons, especially if you're a DPS since everyone is trying out Dark Knight and Astrologon. Beyond that, one thing I've noticed is that most of the field monsters are tuned for level 50 players with...
