    Stories in video games

The immediate problem there is making such a game reasonable to develop. If you were to develop that kind of system for GTA, the possibilities are infinite, thus impossible to develop. That said, I thought that the Mass Effect system (basically choose 1 of 3 paths) failed because A) The...

    Stories in video games

So let me ask this. Looking back, what characters did you form emotional attachments to? For me, it's always been a game's love interest but never the POV main character. This makes sense to me, as the player is usually supposed to be filling the role of the main character. But I also think...

    Stories in video games

Clever dialogue is fine, but I feel that emphasizing it by sacrificing plot is two-dimensional. GTA and Borderlands absolutely did have great dialogue, but I never felt any sort of connection with any characters from either game. Dialogue alone isn't enough to elevate a game beyond what the...

    Stories in video games

That's fair, and I would include characters in the realm of story elements that need to be improved in games, while setting is often done very well nowadays.

    Stories in video games

If any of you played Tomb Raider, how do you feel about how they implemented the story? I personally found the plot to be shit, but that one thing they really managed to pull off was masking the on-rails aspect by adding sort of visceral survival-struggle gameplay throughout. I hate QTE's with...

    Stories in video games

I agree that this is the case. But does the current lack of good stories in good games necessarily mean that video games are a bad medium for them, or that they're simply poorly implemented?

    Stories in video games

I'm just about to begin my master's program in video game production and one of the things a department counselor told me was that stories are one of the least important aspects of modern games. RPG's in generalcanbe an exception, but stories are largely just a vehicle for gameplay and...

Belgians visiting USA: NYC, SF and national parks

Those national park websites like to exaggerate somewhat. You might have trouble finding a place to stay during holidays, but typically not otherwise. In terms of driving, once you get out of California everything will be flat and straight. Keep to the interstates, however, as many of the...

Streaming video from PC to TV

Basically, you can host any TV/movie/music on your PC using an online service called Plex. Chromecast just added support for Plex, so you can now access your media from any tablet/smartphone/pc that's connected to your home network and cast it to the chromecast. I've got a chromecast and a...

I've become a little meh toward this game since the stress test. Hoped that I would log in and find myself really interested in everything, but I wasn't. It's not that it's a bad mmo... it's a good mmo. But mmo's are the most stagnant genre in the industry nowadays and this game's just more...

Games to play with your GF/Wife?

On a related note, I've been looking for console/PC games to play with my wife, co-op like, if anyone has suggestions on those.

    Donating Plasma

There are a lot of restrictions to giving plasma. Can't have gotten a tattoo within a year, can't have visited Europe in the past 20 years, can't have had sex with a man whose had sex with another man since the 70's, and so forth.

    Donating Plasma

The needle isn't nearly as thick as it used to be, as recently as a few years ago. Not really any more pinch than a normal needle now. I donated for 2 years, and you do develop scar tissue, but a year later they're almost gone. My skin heals well though.

    Doctor Who

Weren't angels in their second episode (earlier Amy episode) able to exist in the optical image of an eye, thereby turning that person into a host? Could extend that to the hive mind perhaps.

It would be interesting to know the actual numbers, because it's implicit that people that don't reach the level cap are only buying the box and a few limited months of subscription, while end-game players have ongoing, recurring subscriptions. At what point does it become more profitable to...

    Doctor Who

I haven't loved TV this much since... I don't know, Top Gear Vietnam? Not even that? One point of interest though. When they were freezing Gallifrey they said, "All twelve. No. All thirteen." That "all" implies a lot to me, along with the inclusion of the 13th in the act of the freezing...

How will the world (or maybe just civilization) end in the next 50 years? (Poll)

Well, it depends really. Our solar system is surrounded by the Oort Cloud, a sphere of asteroids left over from the solar system's formation. Every once in a while it'll chuck a giant rock deeper toward the Sun. So while we've cataloged everything near us, that doesn't account for the vast...

How will the world (or maybe just civilization) end in the next 50 years? (Poll)

Getting hit by a species-ending asteroid is a statistical certainty at some point. Not 50 years from now, but likely not as far out as we'd like to think either. That doesn't mean we'll see it coming though. Thus far in Earth's history, we've discovered a single object that ended up entering...

Wildstar Launch Thread - Server: Stormtalon | Faction: Dominion

Cutting-edge realistic graphics have never been a good design decision in MMO's, imo, as they're the single easiest way to date your game. Saying these graphics come from 2004 isn't really accurate when all they are is more stylized than realistic. The "cartoony" stylized direction Wildstar...

    Man of Steel

Bit out of context. That scan is from All-Star Superman in which Lex Luther tricks him into essentially flying into the sun. Thus his power is ultra-boosted along with him being poisoned to death. Not even remotely representative of his normal strength.

    Doctor Who

Hard to say. Kinda just depends on what elements you like/dislike. I personally never really cared for River(might've just been that she wasn't attractive, but I never felt the romantic connection they were supposed to have, idk), and was tepid toward Amy, so I disliked a fair portion of...

    Doctor Who

I agree with whoever said it earlier that Benedict Cumberbatch should be the next doctor. About as perfect a match as I could ever think of. Who knows, maybe he's got a great report with Moffat from Sherlock and wants to add onto the 7 projects he's already got going in 2013

Of the actual early-zone gameplay videos I've seen, I thought the mob balance was pretty interesting simply in the sense that people were having a moderate amount of difficulty killing same-level mobs right out of the gate. Get an add or 2 and you run the risk of dying. Played Neverwinter up...
