    Fondest Memory of MMOs

Travelling to Highpass Keep as a DE Enchanter to get the low level pet spell, with only the vaguest knowledge of where that was ("somewhere next to Kithicor Forest", another zone I'd barely stepped into) and hoping no-one would see through the Human illusion. Later on, scaring the crap out of...

The Grand Tour (from the guys in Top Gear)

While the new show will likely still suck and there are way too many presenters, it should be pointed out that Chris Evans is personal friends with Joey and Eddie Jordan and AFAIK Matt le Blanc is the only one of them who hasn't worked in front of the cameras on a car show.

    Oculus Rift

Some interesting stuff in there, like the round FOV (Vive) vs rectangular FOV (Rift): plus the note that the guy felt nauseous even in the "ideal" VR situation of EVE Valkyrie, once he started doing barrel rolls - again it's the discrepancy between what you're seeing (the world spinning) and...

It's great for something like Elite where being able to look around you is a big advantage. The downside is that the graphics are going to be low resolution compared to what you see on your monitor. One of the issues with VR in games is that it works best when your actual position mirrors the...

    Sherlock

That's been a rumor for months but I think it's wishful thinking - although Hiddleston is a good friend of Cumberbatch and Sherlock's casting does include a bunch of friends and relatives, especially relatives. "Tom would be wonderful in Sherlock I'm sure but he only does movies now. What can...

    Sherlock

In the books he's smarter than Sherlock but is a thinker rather than a doer, so he spends his time behind a desk at his club "advising" the government. The sibling rivalry between the two of them seems more a creation of film and TV.

Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarted Sandbox Space Flight Sim)

With a lot of practice and an agile ship, there's fun to be had down there.* Don't try this until you can afford the many, many crashes that will follow. * you'll notice there's a lot of scene cuts in the video. Mucking about on the surface isn't the best use of your time if you are just...

I still don't get why people are so keen on being able to walk / drive around in games that are about flying - I mean why walk when you can fly, that's why we made planes - but people are keen so there you have it. Just wait till you can walk around stations; you'll end up with a sort of...

Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarted Sandbox Space Flight Sim)

Some "aerial" combat from earlier today. The only real problem was worrying about where the limits of the no-fire zone was above the military base down below; not sure I'd fancy flying something less manoeuvrable about in a scrap down here though.

Some beta screenshots (not mine), spoilered for size. As you might expect from procedural generation, some spots are much better looking than others. There's definitely some issue with terrain "pop-up" and hopefully some optimisations to come on shadowing, which slows things down a lot.

    Doctor Who

I'm going with Missey switching dials on the Doctor back at the start of the series; torturing the Doctor for a few billion years sounds like her idea of fun. Plus, she always claimed to know where Gallifrey was, so who else could or would put a portal to it inside the dial?

Yes, you will need an internet connection to play. As you can switch to "Solo" mode you can avoid blockades and the like, so it's less ganky than Eve. PvP tends to be something you have to go looking for, but there's plenty of it (Quineloe is the guy to ask), and it's more like air combat...

Richard Ayoade is actually a very busy guy; he writes and directs his own films now (Submarine, which was excellent, and The Double, which I've not seen). As well as the acting, writing and directing, he also works with Chris Morris in the Warp Records / Warp Films companies, he's into music.

These aren't for taking out ships, they are for striking naval bases and coastal cities from thousands of miles away. The speculation is that these are cobalt warheads to deal out lethal, long-lasting radiation. AFAIK the only existing torpedoes with nuclear warheads are anti-submarine.
