I dont think it reduces attachment range at all, Uber uses it and doesn't notice a difference. It's kind of like Sunder; it just reduces the little AOE the beams put out.

I know uberelite uses a lightning trap in his helm for single target. And yeah he respeced to inquis as you don't have to use lightning pen gem with it. Hiero is good as a starter though.

Not as hierophant; you usually go MoM and that shield gives you blood magic which sets your mana to 0. It's mostly for AW totems.

Going Arc totems as I saw some interesting theorycrafting with brands that will be easy to respec to if they end up being good. Arc totems/mines/traps are all pretty good regardless, just pick your poison imo.
