I'd suggest DPS is the hardest archetype to be even half decent on. Tank is ultra forgiving and very easy. Healer isn't difficult. But the further you go in the game the more difficult DPS gets, optimising rotations and constantly moving and keeping out of ae's.

The pets are ethereal now. They can't be hit, they can't tank, they can't take aggro. They are just a DoT.

I wouldn't play SMN now it's not a pet class. I suspect they are working on a pet class next - possibly PUP (Puppetmaster) - and wanted to differentiate SMN from it.
