GameStop Stock Worth $5.13...But Only Worth 7cents In Store Credit

Nowadays, I just do Best Buy whenever I'm doing physical. They may have less of a selection than GameStop, but it's rare that they don't have what I'm looking for, and at least I don't have to go through The Ordeal whenever I step up to the register.

    All things Brandon Sanderson

Well, while it's a ten-book series, apparently it's going to be set up as: first five books, *time jump* , last five books. So book five should hopefully have enough of a conclusion to feel like a satisfying end of part one.

    Total War: Warhammer

They haven't said it, but there probably was some licensing issues there, what with Man O'War being a separate tabletop game from Warhammer Fantasy.

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

The early game as a mage in BG1 really was a pain in the ass. "Here's your *one* magic missile for the day. Make it count, fucker." And as much as I enjoyed playing a mage, the whole 'dump 50 buffs on your party pre-fight, then spend the fight stripping 50 buffs off the enemy' paradigm (which...

    Everquest AMA Answered!

Thanks for setting this up, a_skeleton_03, and if any of the Daybreak folks decide to swing through here, thanks for answering. I'm allowing myself a tiny bit of optimism over the fact that they're nudge-and-winking us over EQ3. Also over the fact that they seem to be as enamored with the idea...

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

The odds of it happening are zero, but if we were to ever get a game set in Dragonlance, the force of the nostalgia might literally kill me.

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

Well, I'd have to imagine that, even if Larian hadn't wanted to, WotC would insist on any new game using the current ruleset. It's one thing for the re-release of an old game to use a dated ruleset, it's another thing entirely when it's the first proper game release in years.

DC Universe (Batman vs Superman thread).

Something akin to Arkham Origins would be a good fit, where he's already been Batmanning for a year or so (so no need to worry about giving us the whole 'becoming the Batman' story), but where he's seeing his first escalation from thugs and mafiosos to actual super villains.

    E3 2019

No Elder Scrolls isn't a shock, but I would've expected this year to be the big Starfield blowout. I'd guess that, at the very least, they're waiting until both the PS5 and the Xbox Two are actually announced before showing the game.

    Divinity: Original Sin 3

Huh. I did think it a little soon for a D:OS3, especially when they just announced that spin-off that Logic Artists is making a couple months ago. If it is Baldur's Gate, I hope they can carry over the Lone Wolf mechanic from Divinity. I like me some RPGs, but I can sometimes find micromanaging...

Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines sequel? Remake?

For those interested, as of today, they've finished unveiling the clans (and their disciplines) that are going to be in the base game: Thinblood: Chiropteran (bats), Mentalism (telekinesis), Nebulation (mist) Brujah: Potence (strength), Celerity (speed) Tremere: Thaumaturgy (blood magic)...

Epic Games Storefront - A Good Incentive for Piracy

Really, while the buying up exclusives is annoying, it's not really the problem. The problem is that they're buying up exclusives to sell on a store that isn't done. Launching a store that didn't have a shopping cart, a search function, email authentication, and whatever the fuck else they...

2 years later... the almost sad state of MMOs in the new era

Since we're on class design, what I'd like to see is efforts to make classes (or skill categories, if they go classless) feel more immersive (yeah, I'm kinda one-note in what I want to see for MMOs). Put differently, I'd like to see if we can reach as point where a wizard feels more like a...

    Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019)

Yeah, that was actually fun, and even respected the source material (to the best of my recollection at least; haven't really touched Pokemon since the Red/Blue days). So, for those playing along at home, that now brings the list of video game-based movies that are fun and respect the source...

What We Do in the Shadows

It's a small thing, but the fact that Lazlo has to shout "Bat!" every time he shapeshifts gets a laugh out of me. Pretty sure he's also shouted "Human form!" a couple times while shifting back.

    What did you just read?

The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. This is a title that I've seen pop up fairly regularly on the internet, so I decided to finally pick it up. It's the story of child pickpocket-turned-master conman Locke Lamora and his crew working cons against the nobility of fantasy Venice, while a war...

    (2020) Assassin's Creed Valhalla

They really do just need to let this thing die (by all means, feel free to take a couple games to wrap up the story first, but it's time to put it to bed) and replace it with unrelated historical games that are just about their respective time periods, without being tied to a greater narrative...

    Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Is time travel a narrative clusterfuck just by definition? Sure. Was the Girl Power moment eye-rollingly ham-fisted? Yep (although, they did at least manage to use Captain Marvel the proper amount, and not have her take over the show). But honestly, I don't really care. That was a good fucking...

2 years later... the almost sad state of MMOs in the new era

Well, when I say that quests need a degree of permanence, I don't mean that they need to be one-offs, just that the results need to stick for a reasonable amount of time. To go with the old EQN/Storybricks example, if you save the village from the orcs, the orcs don't just depop; they pull back...

2 years later... the almost sad state of MMOs in the new era

When it comes to quests, I'd say the problem is less about exp and loot, and more about the ... I guess we can say the narrative aspects of them. Quests nowadays are just busy work that exist to give a little more context to growing your numbers than a simple grindfest does. And that was a nice...

Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines sequel? Remake?

Looking at the website writeup, it looks like the full clans only get two of their three disciplines (Brujah don't get Presence). So you end up with your two clan disciplines, and whichever Thinblood discipline you took at the beginning of the game. Have to imagine we're going to see a lot of...

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

It was interesting to see this episode, and then think back to the first couple seasons with that "Oh, Tyrion got knocked out, so we don't get to see the battle" shit. They actually managed something that felt like an apocalyptic final battle.

2 years later... the almost sad state of MMOs in the new era

What I really want from a new MMO is a game that goes hard on making an immersive virtual world, as opposed to a clumsy single-player story attached to an online lobby, or a grindfest that exists just to make your numbers level up into bigger numbers. It was the fact that EQ felt so much like a...

They have been, but they've also been spending the last few years snapping up dev teams to expand their first-party line up; I expect that we're going to see the fruits of that effort start to show up at this year's E3. Of course, all Xbox exclusives will also be on PC, and thus if you want to...

    Hellboy (2019)

Not planning to nominate it for any awards, but it definitely doesn't deserve the critical thrashing it's been getting. It doesn't have the ... heart, I guess, of the Del Toro films--no Hellboy and Abe drunkenly singing duets here--but it was a damn fun popcorn action flick. It's the sort of...

Just finished the game going down the Holy Mission path. The game's rough as hell, and filled to the brim with eurojank, but I really enjoyed the ride. I'm definitely going to be revisiting in the future to run through the other two factions. Hopefully this does well enough to warrant a sequel...

    Shazam! (2019)

Yeah it's campy, but considering Shazam's whole deal, it probably should be campy and kiddy. This should (hopefully) just be a sign that DC's finally going for the right tone for each character, rather than a general swing in all the movies towards campy.

    Shazam! (2019)

Didn't like it quite as much as Wonder Woman or Aquaman, but I'd say that it's not because of a lack of quality, and more so that it's aimed more at a younger audience. And considering that the character's core concept is, "the movie Big, but being Tom Hanks grants superpowers," I'm not inclined...
