    Dune (2020)

Good on ya. I read the first one and loved it. Then I lived in a country with very few English books. One of the books my local store had was Dune Messiah, so I read it, and holy shit it was a hot garbage. Read book one on repeat, and never think about any of the others.

    Whats rustling your jimmies?

I'm an American living in Poland. I work in a Primary School teaching English, and our school year ended on June 19. So for the last 10 days, I have not been working. My pay came through yesterday, and I only have 70% of my pay. So I sent a message to my boss, and she did not respond. I was...

Half a War by Joe Abercrombie I think I can safely say, with these books, that Joe Abercrombie has mastered the themes that he outlined in the First Law Trilogy. In both you have people torn about by conflict, a maniacal wizard pulling the strings, a powerful person who cannot be with the one...

    Salt Lake City

Hey man, I lived in SLC for a year (actually Murray, but it's part of the Greater SLC area). So here are some things I can recommend... 1 - Sugarhouse Coffee, best coffee in SLC. Filled with leftists and hippies, but order the Cuban Revolver and you'll be wired for the rest of the trip. 2...

    What did you just read?

The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell (1995) Although it started slow this book really picked up by the end. One of the most enjoyable things about it is the aura of fantasy that it carries, without having any fantasy at all. There are certainly druids, spells, rituals and enchanted items - but...

    What did you just read?

So I read Half a King while on vacation in Germany, and I really liked it. I was fine without the fucking and swearing in his other novels. I bought the third while also in Germany, and while I don't have the second I'll probably just read the third anyway. I must agree with you though. The...

    Westworld

Finished Season 1. Pretty good. Not amazing. I enjoyed it. I'm not going to even touch Season 2. Too much hate for it on the internet. I learned my lesson with LOST.

I was comparing them with each other. As far as fantasy goes, Abercrombie is top 3 of the guys writing nowadays. Sharp Ends was interesting, but not his best work. The Heroes is probably the finest fantasy novel I've read in eight years. Have you read his Shattered Sea series? I'm thinking of...

    What did you just read?

Went to Croatia with my girlfriend, and found an English bookstore. We don't have those in our town in Poland, so I bought a bunch of books by Joe Abercrombie. I listened to one of his books on audible, and loved his writing style. Bought one, finished it in two days, and bought two more. Here...

    The Joe Abercrombie Thread

I just got done listening to the main trilogy via audiobook, and thought they were okay. But then I went and read The Heroes and Red Country and thought they were amazing. Abercrombie definitely needs to be read, not listened to, and I think he is at his strongest when he is writing a self...

This is Lake Bled, Slovenia. Went there last January. Rowed across that lake. Lot less snow when I went. But at night the valley looks like a scene out of a werewolf movie. Recommended.

    Whats rustling your jimmies?

Damn, man. Sometimes I get bummed out that I never made it into graduate school. And that I didn't study math or science in college. Then I remember word problems and I'm like, "You know what. I kind of like that fact I'm interested in grammar." Fuck math.

Small sink in my kitchen. Overly large colander. Both provided for by my job, in whose housing I live. Got fed up tonight and smashed the colander into one hundred pieces. Good thing they are 50 cents at the store.

The Crossing by Cormac McCarthy. A sixteen year old cowboy ventures into Mexico three times. Each time he is going there for something, or trying to bring something back home. Each time something goes wrong. Mexico is a wild land from which the protagonist has to retreat when he fails. His...

    Soldado (2018)

So I was a huge fan of the first Sicario (2015), and when I saw the line up for the crew of the second one I was a little apprehensive. I think I was worrying too much. I loved Soldado, even if I did not love it the same way as Sicario, a movie that had a certain power to it because I did not...

    What did you just read?

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. A Y/A novel that takes place in a fantasy world which somewhat resembles the Roman Empire after it was Christianized. The "Rome" of the setting has been built among the bones of a dead god. They wage war with flaming blades and steam-powered war walkers. Those are...

So, I only have a laptop. But I make quite a bit of local currency (so it will be slightly cheaper than if I bought it back in the USA). Should I spring for a television, an xbox one and the game? Is it worth it, gents?
