Considering the work of H R Giger who designed the bestiary, there is very little doubt of the sexual nature of the facehugger.

My gigantic backlog shook on its base today as, 28 years after buying it, I finally beat Batman on NES. Never beat the 4th stage back in the days, but, with increased maturity and some advice from EndySWE who holds the 2nd best time for the speedrun of the game, the Joker got thrown off the top...

    Elementary

I still religiously watch this. I love that most episodes feel like they picked three topics out of a hat and dared themselves to craft a story that makes sense with all three. The balance between investigation and personal drama is also very well done. Not a huge fan of the two parts final...

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)

It's pretty simple: Gore Verbinski directs? Good to great. Rob Marshall directs? Meh. Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg direct? Wait and see.

    Alien: Covenant (2017)

I was not masochistic enough to rewatch Prometheus before this one, but as far as I remember the engineers' planet was the one in Prometheus and what I gathered from the flashback sequence in Covenant was that it's taking place on a whole other planet.

These numbers are not all of the same nature! Those about where the action takes place add up to 100% The one about the Alien-ness of this film could only reach 100% if it was a shot for shot remake of Alien.

    Alien: Covenant (2017)

It's pretty easy: one is the film where the main character goes back and forth through the whole ship to save a cat when a xenomorph is roaming, the other is the film with just about all the memorable sequences and characters associated with the Alien franchise.

story of a Philippino slave and her family

I did eat her cooking but to my defense she died when I was a child! After a little investigation it happens that Rosa who worked for my grandparents from an early age and helped raise their three children was actually paid. Like with the woman in the article, she was a country girl with no...

This story is a bit similar to the one of the maid who worked for my grandparents. She had her room though and possibly maybe was paid? I shall investigate.

    Alien: Covenant (2017)

It is a lot better than Prometheus (which is not saying much), but it feels more like a spin off than a main line Alien movie as it is mainly about a "what if" scenario. You still get the religious bullshit on the side and a gooey center of philosophical babble, you also get the weirdest penis...

    Brisbane as an exchange student

A friend of mine will be spending the better part of a year in Brisbane as an exchange student (17 year old). Obviously she will have some classmates to guide her around, but I thought I could ask around here too for some Aussie wisdom beforehand. My only guess is: be sure to use sunscreen...

Cont... Hamon: Yakuza Boogie - 4/5. A semi slacker that works as a middle man between mobsters and contractors finds himself teaming with an old school yakuza to find an old hustler more slippery than an oiled fish that conned too many powerful people. Nothing spectacular, but consistently...

Quick notes on some of the best asian films I saw at a festival out of the 60ish: I am not Madame Bovary - 5/5. Chinese arthouse administrative comedy about a women trying to get her fake divorce anuled so that she can divorce for real. A kind of satirical tongue in cheek version of Yimou's...

And the Real scored at least one goal in their previous 50ish matches or something equally silly, so the Atletico might need five goals in the return leg.... Let's just say that the Atletico is not Barcelona and that the Real is not Paris, so... yeah.

Crazy first half in the Real-Atletico match. The tempo is very high and the technical mastery is impressive. I am not sure the players can survive another 45 min with such intensity.

    Hugh Jackman: Logan

I am not sure this movie exists. I wish it would have been Logan and that's why I said the project is kinda cool. I am not a comic book reader, but my understanding is that one of the interesting things with super hero comics is that many different authors can offer non-canon takes on some...

    Hugh Jackman: Logan

    Hugh Jackman: Logan

To be fair, the project of the film is pretty cool (a kind of anti-superhero movie / road movie / post western with a R rating and cinephile influence), but what parts of it are well executed? Not many. The action is nothing special (other than having Wolverine cutting people... yay?), the plot...

    Ghost in the Shell (2017)

I think this movie mostly suffers from being an adaptation. The main problem being that the changes made to the plot and world shift the themes toward something that is a lot less interesting. Namely, it goes from a universal questioning about the nature of identity and the very poetic dawn of a...

It's not about being PC or not, it's about conventions that exists and are not the same for all productions. Beauty and the Beast (2017)

This is getting a little ridiculous now. In Indian Wells, in the most packed quarter of a draw ever devised for a Master 1000 (Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, Del Potro and with the youngsters Zverev and Kyrgios for good measure), it's Federer who found a way through. Djokovic barely edged past Del...
