Oups! A bit late: R32 got played and the surprises were few and far between. In fact all the matches were pretty one sided in favor of the favorites, except Bautista Agut, you know that guy I thought would be too tired to compete, who discarded Cilic in straight sets! The surprise guest of the...

This analogy would kinda work if black actors were complaining about not being in enough sun screen commercials... Anyway, it's a complicated situation that has more to do with movie production than the academy.

The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret is back!

You are a bit harsh. There are some very good jokes (the muslim/skinhead alliance) and scenes (Todd at the airport desk) through the whole thing, but the main problem is that the possibly brilliant structure is lost on anyone who did not see the previous two seasons just before checking this...

Round 2 is over! SEEDICIDE WATCH: The top half of the draw was totally uneventful with all the favorites winning. The bottom half saw a couple minor heads rool. Chardy [30] probably not fully recovered from his first round marathon fell to Kuznetsov (not related to Kuznetsova but that last...

    2016 Oscars

To make things clear, I knew Hayakawa was a big star during the golden age of Hollywood, making him likely to have won an Oscar. That was the entirety of what was on the top of my head. The rest is google-fu and imdb browsing.

    2016 Oscars

About asian nominations, the first thing that came to mind is Sessue Hayakawa for The Bridge on the River Kwai (best supporting actor). That same year (1957) Miyoshi Umeki, a japanese actress who later became american, won for best supporting actresse in a movie called Sayonara (which also...

    2016 Oscars

I am not sure if they weight the votes to create the nomination list, but, at the end of the day, if not enough people see the movie, it can't be nominated, so half the battle is getting the members of the academy to see the movie. A battle that is significantly harder for Beasts of No Nation...

It's very difficult to comment on it because the story amount to "Betting sites reported several occurrences of suspicious betting patterns to the anti match fixing body of the ATP and no one ever got suspended for it." We don't know at this point who are the players and matches involved so it's...

The thing also is that Creed is a pretty good movie, but the best thing in it really is Stallone and he got nominated. I mean you can't get a best director nomination because you decided to put a single take fight in the middle of your movie and you don't get an original screenplay nomination...

The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret is back!

Just saw the first one for now. It's a great idea to make the polar opposite of the first season, the problem though is that people who saw it 5 years ago, like I did, spend the episode thinking "Mmmmmh that must be a funny reference to something I should remember but don't..." So... yeah...

Cool games don't necessarily make for cool speed runs thought. For me it's high skill and/or cool glitches/exploits and/or cool runner and/or nostalgia. I usually get the full combo with PJ running Super Famicom classics. It's also an opportunity to see games I did not play, even if...

Does 80 Days count for 2015? It was released on mobiles in 2014 but on steam in 2015. It's like the Tales of the Arabian Nights board game, but through the whole world, with a time limit and in a Jules Vernian XIXth century. It's both very simple and very deep and pretty crazy. Not a very...

Pretty sure I killed the Cleric Beast on my first try (had played Demon's Souls and Dark Souls before though). I believe I also (intentionally) gun parried only a single type of enemy through the whole game (the fat guys with bricks). I summoned helpers for a lot of the bosses though.

    Sicario (2015)

Your Movies of the Year list

Nah... I can make a pretty big pile with the eastern european films I love and Guy Maddin is a Canadian fascinated by early Hollywood. I guess what sets Element of Crime apart in this little 'fever dream' selection is that, in it, the form is justified by the fact it's all the memories of...

Hard to be a God is monumental but I must say that I have no love for these films that feel like never ending fever dreams such as The Hourglass Sanatorium or some (but not all) of the movies of Guy Maddin or Aleksandr Sokurov... now that I write that, I remember enjoying Lars von Trier's The...

Dunkirk from Christopher Nolan July 21st 2017

Religion was a little more present this season, but it was there from the start with Brody's secret praying, etc. I have very little taste for the religious and thought it was pretty well managed here. You add a bit of color to Durig with his chapel, you add a bit of PC complexity with the...
