Larger Health Pool and On demand Healing was the mechanic that deathknights used to become the preferred tanks during WoW Cataclysm. It's all just a numbers game and individual encounters matter. There is no reason to doubt that they'll be viable... at the very least you'll have an easier time...

P.S. I used my mono red to tackle 2 heroes, burned about 5 stones (net -4) between 3 runs, Freyr/area just seemed as good or better than mono dark for me, since A) the goal is to burn down green, and b) survival against solo blue wasn't hard. 1 stone at masks, 3 at vamps.
