I dunno. Looks beautiful, but the character design of the dinosaur is jarringly out of place with the rest of the scenery. Its an almost featureless bright-green gumbi blob in an otherwise nicely decorated scene, and the clash takes me right out of the mood.

Yup. At least from all the bits I've seen. Might have been the result of some kind of arms race to have the higher decks than your opponents since they mainly fought by boarding actions and having the high ground is a valuable advantage for that kind of thing. Thats purely personal speculation...
