The exact opposite thing has been happening with my Nexus 4. For some unknown reason, despite me not changing anything, a Google Talk partial wakelock is murdering my battery life. I haven't installed any new apps or changed anything and I uninstalled Google Talk months ago. I hope the...

    Iron Man 3 [Spoilers Everywhere]

Great trailer! Hopefully Shane Black delivers. The CGI looks pretty sketchy in places, though. That's quite worrying considering the film is only a few months away. Edit - It appears that ILM is not doing CGI work on this movie. That explains why the CGI looks worse than Iron Man 2 / The...

    EA's pay to win future

Right, which is what I said when I said the 3ds will be a 'tepid success', at best. Nintendo is doing poorly. Their share price, which has fallen to Gamecube era levels, is proof of this -http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/echarts?...TO.BE;range=my. Like I said, they still have the time and...

    EA's pay to win future

Ok, so, the 3ds is going to make Nintendo money. There's no doubt of that. The problem is that, as it stands, it'll be a tepid success, at best, unlike the DS which was a ridiculous runaway success. Quoting myself from the Wii U thread: Nintendo has had to revise their sales expectations...

    EA's pay to win future

Well, who knows how long Nintendo will be around for. They've lost somewhere in the region of $3 billion over the past few years, the Wii U is performing dismally, and the 3ds is selling far below expectations everywhere but Japan. They're not doing too well at the moment, but there is still...

    EA's pay to win future

I spent a week in London recently and I had to take the London Underground about 20-30 times. Over the course of about 20 hours spent on the tube, I saw one Vita, one PSP, and a handful of 3ds's. I saw literally hundreds of smartphones and tablets, though, and most people were playing games on...

    EA's pay to win future

Textures, models, programming, sound effects, music, voice acting etc. are all created through sheer manpower. Need some extra textures? Gotta hire someone to do it for you. Need to animate a model? Gotta hire an animator. The cost to hire these people is going up, not down. Unless you outsource...

    EA's pay to win future

Development costs haven't dropped -- they've risen steadily through this last generation. And the userbase hasn't increased much this generation (155 million ps2s sold vs 153 million 360+ps3), meaning there aren't more consumers to sell to this gen vs last. The cost of games hasn't risen...

    EA's pay to win future

Games cost millions of dollars to make nowadays and the companies making them are operating on razor thin margins. It's no surprise that they're risk averse. As for micro transactions; pc & console devs need to make use of them. They're leaving so much money on the table because they're not...

The stock 4.2.2 kernel is excellent. I've been going 48 hours between charges and getting 2hr30-2hr45m screen on time with my Nexus 4. It's not quite as good as Franco's kernel but it's good enough for me.

h.265 was just recently finalised. It has the same quality as h.264 but with half the file size. There will be higher capacity blu-ray discs out soon, too.

Blizzard isn't going to go Sony exclusive. They'd be leaving far too much money on the table. Expect them to show up Microsoft's press conference.

Well, that was interesting up until they showed the games. The Capcom game looks interesting, Watch Dogs looks awesome, and Jonathan Blow's game looks intriguing. All those games are coming to other platforms, though. I find it strange that they didn't show off the console itself. Guess...

I have my doubts. If I read it correctly, it said 'push A to access ATM' when he went to hack that guys ATM account. Since when did the Playstation controller have an 'A' button? It didn't look as good as the E3 demo, though, which was a little disappointing. I'm sure it'll look great on...

These game demos are showing off how bad modern day animation looks. The environments and the player models look impressively detailed but they look awfully stilted when they move. Hopefully developers will adapt in the future.

That might be the first Killzone game that doesn't have shitty looking art. They finally dropped the overly 'brotastic' characters, too. Interestingly, I didn't think it looked as good as Crysis 3 does, though. Still, the sheer scale of everything looked great, and the IQ looked nice, too.

I doubt either of the two consoles will have BC. The 360 and PS3 were built on PowerPC architecture while the Durango and Orbis are both x86 based. As I understand it, games won't work unless developers are willing to recode/recompile their games for the new consoles. Sony may be able to provide...

All of the Android manufacturer skins are awful, in my opinion. They're slow, ugly and nowhere as well designed as stock. Try playing with a Nexus 4, if you can. It very rarely hitches and Google has done a great job with the stock UI. It feels very well designed and very polished. I don't miss...

    Wii U

Harsh! But fair. Interestingly, under EA's classification system, the Wii U is classified as a 'Gen 3' system - the same as the 360/ps3. Durango/Orbis have been classified as 'Gen 4' systems. It says a lot about the 'power' (or lack of it..) of the system.

Gaikai was actually much better than I was expecting it to be when I tried it out a few months ago. It's nowhere as good as responsive as gaming on a local system, but it's perfectly playable. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...ikai-vs-onlive

    Wii U

Nintendo is fucked. Mobile devices are cutting into their handheld market and the next gen systems will attract the attention of most hardcore gamers. The casual gamers that made the Wii a success have already moved on - they're playing games on their phones and their tablets instead. Iwata...

It's all good! Just warning anyone who wants to try it themselves that they may have to re-add their Google Play accounts in case it doesn't work. Google must be taking their time rolling out the Nexus 4 updates. I'm sure they'll be up soon enough.

Tried it again and it didn't work. Trying this also fucked up my Google Play Store, too, causing error messages to appear whenever I went to download an app. I had to remove my Google account and re-add it to get the Play Store working correctly again.
