Major eruptions occurred roughly 2.1m, 1.3m and 640,000 years ago. A difference of 800,000 betwen the first and second and 660,000 between the second and third. So I'm cool with ignoring your bolded statement given 3 such eruptions in the past 2.1 million years - that's pretty wishful thinking...

I don't have a problem with flatter levels - in DnD the difference between a level 1 and a level 3 is much bigger than say a level 9 and level 11.

I not looking for that I don't think - for example storybricks looks interesting, but on the other hand a fully dynamic world could get annoying at times. You go off looking for Orcs to get some bronze armor, you get there and they're gone, replaced by Trolls who kick your ass. It's like the...

Pretty much this. There are a lot of other games out there that with much better funding. Pantheon only succeeds as a niche game. Too bad they can't do something like EVE and put everyone on the same server (or two servers if PvE/PvP) - just wouldn't work in a fantasy game.

Unlikely anytime soon, but possible tomorrow. Super eruptions happen every 630-670,000 years. It's been 630,000 years since that last one.

Fukushima and Solar Flares are much higher on the concern scale - though Yellowstone could have a small scale eruption anytime, super eruption probably not happening for a couple thousand years, but you never know. I wouldn't buy a house in Colorado.

You are like the third person in the past ten pages to use the "tired" or "lazy" description for levels. I'm pretty confident none of you have actually thought it through, take your LFG example. I'm a level 20 BST I go to Kurn's Tower because I know it's in my level range. There I can hang...

Because taking two data points: One cruise - "lots of shit" Second cruise ten years later "almost zero shit" - isn't a valid method of data collection? Whereas sitting on your ass and writing an article in Seattle based on 2011 and 2012 data is totally valid for 2014?

I don't play MMOs that don't have levels because its an obviously stupid idea; even the EQN Brain Trust which professes to hate MMOs had to sneak in tiers. What I have done is played RPGs that didn't have levels and they were all awful in different ways.

WTF does a single player console game have to do with a large MMO? Pretty much nothing. I'm harping on you because you are not the only person out there who thinks levels are a bad idea - the EQN Senior Staff agrees with you and it's just completely mental. Not only do levels help with the...

Not really. It makes development easier because you know what to expect of the players when you're designing the content. You know a level 30 player is going to have X spells, roughly Y gear, etc.

Levels continue to be used in MMOs because they work. Probably EQN's worst idea was getting rid of levels. -_- Levels allow players to -Feel a sense of progression -Easily identify others who are in an appropriate range to group with -Easily identify mobs they can/can't tangle with. No...

While I know EQ had instancing about the same time as WoW (LDoN) and the psychospace game with the horrible launch had instancing in 2001, WoW is the game most associated with instancing because in addition to instanced dungeons it introduced quest hubs that usually had a connection with the...

You want a game with lots of customization, that's also leveless. EQN is doing exactly what you are suggesting, Pantheon won't have a tenth of the resources that EQN will have for their game so if Brad & Co. try to make a leveless game for theorycrafters they're fucked. Same issue I had with...

I'd much rather camp a mob for 15 hours than run Stratholme or any other instance 15 times. I ran UBRS 30 times for the Alchemy potion before I said fuck it and soon after said fuck it to WoW. I don't understand you or @creslin. You prefer instances, great, there are a shit-ton of modern...

Again, that's not a problem for Pantheon because Brad & Co really need to slow down the leveling/gear curve anyway they can or people will run out of content. Vanilla EQ wasn't really that big. Progression servers knocked out the content in 10 (ten) days, IIRC.

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

No. Instancing pretty much requires that kind of behavior. You have two options either you have a super loot/xp pi?ata (if you allow boss mobs to respawn so you can keep killing them) or RNG loot treadmill (kill all mobs then you have to go out and respawn the instance and run through it...

Because group dungeons work just fine non-instanced. That doesn't mean NewCo couldn't throw in a fully instanced dungeon or two like and Estate of Unrest equivalent that used instancing to further the haunted house feeling. But that's a lot of development time for little reward, IMHO - I agree...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

Look at modern gaming. Group dungeons: Instancing leads to "get me the fucking loot already" mentality which means short dungeons, a couple of bosses, then loot. Raid dungeons: Leads to smaller and more complicated raids (I agree with you that instancing can result in much more...
