The majority of people running Windows 7 will find that, as it's there by default. Opening up a command prompt and entering "powercfg -h off" will immediately disable hibernation and free up the space. \o/

Generally speaking yes, it's certainly not advisable to tinker with those settings. However, I'd much rather discover the settings were wrong when I've only got the OS on the disk rather than a whole bunch of applications/updates/data. It's very strange your drive isn't detecting at all now...

Very odd. I'd have thought that enhanced and AHCI would be the correct settings for modern drives. Unless I'm very much mistaken IDE is a legacy mode for older drives. Try sticking it on enchanced/AHCI and booting it up, and see what happens. If it works good, if it blue screens you'll need to...

My suspicion is either your SATA controller is set to compatibility rather than AHCI, or your drive needs replacing. My first suggestion, is reset the BIOS to defaults. Assuming that doesn't make a difference then try and listen to the drive for things like clicks or the disk spinning...

I'd have to echo TDOs advice. Especially with so many places that will advise you on parts that work together, build the thing for you, burn it in and then give you a warranty on the complete system. It's the sanest choice by far, especially for someone who doesn't have much/any PC building...

It could be a resource conflict or the on-board sound could have packed up, have you tried disabling it in the BIOS rather than just using the external device? Do you get any kind of stuttering when the distortion happens, or are the games smooth apart from the sound?

Perhaps I was a bit unfair saying the stories themselves aren't good, I agree with your points. Incidentally I think Persona 3 and 4 are great examples of JRPGs with a weak, generic story, but because of the combat and mechanics they're really fun games.

Already got itGood game, loved the hexagon grid system and combat, and a great example of an RPG that rewards putting the time in beyond the "storyline" game.

That goes with the genre though, good stories in JRPGs is very much the exception. The combat looks good though, and so long as you can skip the cutscenes/dialogue I'll be happy.

Just in case anyone cares, I resolved this by simply installing Service Pack 1 for Server 2008 R2. Which I'd have done sooner except for Managers who are paranoid about server restarts/downtime.

If you have no intention of using it, it couldn't hurt to take the cable out. I'm not familiar with your exact model, but in most cases it's a simple procedure to remove the top panel and disconnect the touchpad ribbon.
