The best way I've found to do it is to lock your phone, then triple click to turn it off and if that doesn't work, keep locking it and then triple clicking.

One thing to remember about arena, especially as a beginner, is that you really only need your rank to stay above 30k. Even with a whaled out team, it is pretty time consuming to stay in the top 3k, where the weekly and monthly rewards are better (ie, you can waste very few, if any arena orbs)...
