The only good I really see is that this will combine Nintendo's output on one system. Their biggest problem is that they were always split between two systems. But now that they're going all in on one, there shouldn't be many (if any) droughts.

Nintendo seems to slowly be branching out into other industries. Toys, movies, mobile, and possibly eventually "health" stuff in the future. So they're trying to not have all of their eggs in one basket. Also, SNES and PS1 were my favorite systems. SNES especially, since it was my first.
