The problem is with Rank 1 / Rank 2 type spells. Not always, but depending on your class, you'll take the Rank 1 stuff off when you have Rank 2. Then you go to a lower level dungeon, and your buttons don't work.
Honestly, with scaling, they should've made a way for all the spells to scale...
My attempt to get back into VG isn't going well. Not enough people to group with (honestly a lot of it is my fault, limited playtime during the week), and if I'm going to collect bear asses, I'd rather do it in LOTRO where I love the world and can wear the gear rewards without spending more cash.
I'll take a stab. If you compare CoD to PVP especially, it's pretty easy. I don't play much CoD/BF online, but I know they usually these days have progression, just like MMORPGs. You're playing in an instanced map in both, with set teams on each side. You're "roleplaying" a soldier just as much...
Oooh, definitely interested. No mini-map even.
Not sure what you saw last night, but now on their page is a huge image on the front page that takes you right to it.
I think the extra hype they're going to get from VOXEL MINECRAFT MMO will quickly die down when everything reverts back 5 minutes later. That's the exact opposite of what makes Minecraft appealing.
I think EQNL could be pretty damn fun for a while though.
Yeah, in my "lets ignore technical issues" armchair game designer/developer , I was meaning it as friendly fire on, forgot to mention it. The collision detection combined with having to aim where you swing, so you don't hit friendlies, would prevent zergs from being logistical.
Not that any...
I think there are some non-retarded ways to have large PVP that doesn't turn into blobs. For example - no tab targeting, using collision detection for projectiles, swings, and even player bodies standing next to each other. You couldn't have two hundred people hitting the same door, because only...
On top of that, what little WvW I checked out in GW2, the fights were very much lopsided. One side became the obvious winner pretty early, then the losing team would just ignore it until that match was over. I see no reason that all the problems with GW2 WvW won't happen here again - except...
Of course there's no talking - when do you have time to type? Modern hotbutton MMOs you're constantly moving or doing your rotation. You don't have time to type. And since the whole point of the game is getting the better gear, and you want the gear faster, the faster you run the dungeons the...
I know Vanguard chat isn't super exciting, but why the fuck do you two continue to talk about SC here? Go somewhere else, take it to PMs, etc.
Anyways, the Cave of Wonders new gear stuff is interesting. Not that I'm at max level or will likely ever be.
Can I build any type of wang towers, or do they need to be EQ lore specific? Like, just Erudite wang towers, Ogre wang towers, Kerran wang towers, etc, or is it fine if I build some, say, Transformer wang towers, or Drenai wang towers?
I really believe that as we keep having this discussion over and over again, that most of us claiming we want this and that, really don't....or we'd be playing the games that have it. It's just those games aren't big or popular, or as highly polished. Why? Because there's not AAA money it...
I don't believe that's his point, Alkorin. I think there's still value in them releasing the content too.
However, his point is not that, I don't believe. It seems that others, including yourself, is saying this is the INTENTIONAL plan on their behalf, when it's not. They fucked up. They...
Most MMOs these days have a way to sync your level down, in some fashion. In EQ it's weird and you put on a shroud, and it actually changes you into a different mob. In EQ2 you just "mentor" down, and it's like GW2, where your stuff scales down, but I think you retain your buttons. In Vanguard I...
On paper I'd agree with you Mr Creed - but there's also a lot of fun in a typical MMO with going back to earlier content and godmoding it.
GW2 has it so that you're auto-leveled (and FFXIV does in dungeons), and people don't really enjoy certain aspects of it. Although I think removing skills...
FWIW, EQ did better than modern MMOs at keeping content worth revisiting in some fashion. Most zones had a wide range of levels, and you'd come back later to finally do That Quest or your Epic, or to farm gear for resistance gear, or to twink our new alts.
Not saying you'd go back at 50 and...
Is CT going to be through the Duty Finder?
The difference with WoW (last time I played was even before you - start of Cata) is that all raids were scalable. That's my point. If you wanted to progress "as designed" through the tiers, the size goes 4man (dungeons), 8man (last story raids, hm...
While I think it's weird to release a lower tier (this early into the game especially), I just find it more odd that the raid sizes are all different. I don't know what that's supposed to achieve.
It feels like another case of where FFXIV mostly copies the WoW model for damn near everything...
Yeah, I've pointed this out before (and the impracticalness of people wanting a niche game but with AAA polish and marketing and all their friends playing). That feature list describes something only a small amount of people would be interesting in playing for any amount of time. Back when EQ...
Images like that make me realize how much more I could be interested in this game if it wasn't attached to the EverQuest title, heh. I know we've been over it ad nauseam, but that art style just doesn't say EQ to me, in the slightest.
If they stick to a vision like that, I hope they're smart enough to not have a lot of servers, even if it leads to overcrowding at the start. Because very few of today's market will sit through that. If a new game like that today could get even 50k people I'd be surprised and happy.
Not so much writing it off, but (as usual) there was a lot of hype and promises, and none of it delivered at all. And what we did get, was not what a lot of this forum is interested in (many people want EQ3, and don't want cartoony Kerans). I think many of us are just "meh" until we actually...
Yeah I started to watch it, and quickly realized "wait, wtf am I doing wasting my time on this?" (as as someone who plays MMOs, you know I have a low bar for what I consider an actual waste of my time). I figured if there was anything valuable, it'd be posted about later.
It's not just that though - anyone who says anything other than "this game is utter shit" you go on the offensive about. I relayed a comment from a friend who said they enjoyed the way the targeting system worked, and you somehow claimed her opinion was wrong...which still just makes no sense to...
And even things like some of the more unforgiving / harsh mechanics were pretty much non-issues if you were in a decent guild or even just not a dbag on the server, which is really what people want - that need for good social interaction, not so much that people want corpse runs. Getting a...
I think a big issue any new game would face if it was "more hardcore", would be how so many people are trained in the way MMOs work today. They'd fire up the game, die out in the night to some wandering level 10 mob, and immediately uninstall and go back to any one of the 5 F2P MMOs that have...
...I don't think that time ever existed in the history of ever. I wasn't there for UO and Meridian 59, but I was for vanilla EQ, and people definitely bitched the entire time.
Even the die-hards that still raid in EQ to this day get upset when a new expansion (like the one that literally just came out) doesn't have upgrades.
People want their treadmill. /shrug. EQ's treadmill is still, generally speaking, better than say, WoW, where you get exponentially better...
LOTRO is a lot of a fun, with a great F2P system. It's standard WoW-style bear-ass questing, and with each expansion the game cares less and less about grouping, but if you are a Tolkien nerd, it's just amazing. They did a great job bringing Middle Earth to life. It's fun just to see what you...
I have a friend who is in it. She likes it - to give you her background, she goes back to EQ1. And she's actually quite infamous in EQ2.
I only talked with her for a brief moment about it, but her comments on it where that it was fun, that she enjoyed the different style of targeting...
I guess a lot of people weren't aware of informational websites and damage parsers "back in the day", but that doesn't mean that they weren't there pretty quickly. There were formulas you could use to determine which piece of gear was better for DPS, sites to look up to tell you how to do...
I'm inclined to agree, but from a business sense, more people want a game rather than virtual world.
Those of us that want a virtual world (like EQ, VG, etc) are in the minority. Many people said, over and over, that the best part of SWTOR was their personal/class story, and it was the main...
