Yes it's always on you, but when the game wants you to do it, that is terrible design. FF8 WANTS you to play the card game, and it WANTS you to reap the rewards from it. It is nothing like Skyrim were you have to think outside the box and purposefully exploit it. If the rewards from the card...

Hooked up the NES just now and started playing 3D World Runner. Crappy Space Harrier knock off, but still fun.

Weapons sure, but specific refining and proper junctions? Because it's super hard to see that these cards gave me 100 of xxx spell that I can now put onto my HP to give me God like health? Hell the game tells you "Hey, junction blind to your weapon attack so this T-Rex monster you may encounter...

And to get off this FF8 derail, the only thing I regret is never have played SNES Final Fantasies as a kid. Grew up with the Master System and Genesis, so I was a Phantasy Star kid. I've played FF6 (I own the cart now), but I always get to the destroyed world and my ADD kicks in and I play...

Except the Card game is something the designers wanted you to play. Playing it is playing the game. The problem with the card system is the rewards you get from it can be way above what you actually are supposed to have at that point in the game. It's not like in FF7 were I have to intentionally...

True, except that in FF8 it takes almost zero work to Overpower yourself. The first time I played it as a kid, not knowing exactly what I was doing, I ended up completely OPing myself by random without realizing it. p.s., Mad props to someone who knows what Phantasy Star is! Love that series...

Monsters and Bosses leveled with you (Monsters at least, fairly sure Bosses did too. Someone can correct me on that one), and the biggest thing that changed as monsters lvled were what they dropped. Keeping yourself low lvled while Junctioning powerful magic made it trivial fighting monsters...

But with 8 you really don't. After the first maybe hour of the game (once you become SeeD or whatever they called it), if you just take 2 or so hours you are now OPed, from a mini-game the designers wanted you to play. It's a broken design flaw that is easily abused. Yes of course you can avoid...

The problem with 8 (outside of the broken story after Disc 1) is that you can basically over power yourself very early on. Levels are pointless outside of different monster drops, and it actually hurts you to lvl up on disc one. You can exploit the card system pretty hard, which will open up...

WoW Vanilla Emu - Emerald Dream

Played awhile back on Alliance. Stopped due to wanting to play Skyrim/P99. Might join up horde side and have slaughter with some of you!

    Lurkers (reloaded)

Sad FoH is down, was a lurker/rare poster there. Hoping this place is a good home! (Now to figure out how to put this on my chrome start screen instead of FoH...) edit: Fuck Tyen. Always hated that guy.
