I get this point ... . I feel often times we are trying to fit too much into small designs... If I am playing a fighter for example I can see why less skills makes sense in fact for more realism why not dodge / block / roll and NOT abstract the combat so much... Problem is for casters when you...

Cool and yes I agree... in neverwinter u didn't even target stuff just hold down one button most of time it was terrible. I mean if folks were looking for depth that is for a spammy flashy experience NW was fun I guess

If eqnext has NW or gw2 combat I won't touch it. Most mind numbing shit ever ... A least for a Mage. I shall just keep playing DDO.

I would do it for sure... and I admit sneaking around in eq2 with Plat when going to that vendor they had where u can get killed was pretty cool... hearing of someone getting whacked with 20 plat was amazing... i could only imagine what it would be like if they can take all your stuff..

For the most part I thought eq2 was well done actually all my best pvp experiences come from that and early wow.

On soloing... check out DDO. You build content for groups but make it possible with either solo with a hireling army or duo with a hierling each. Group content is more interesting assuming your classes have true roles outside of ( we all DPS ). Put hirelings in the store.. and also purchasable...

/agree it really started the whole f2p thing... DDO bounced back amazingly and the model for DDO is really well done..

If you can handle the not so great graphics, DDO is actually a very good game.. ( of course its dungeon after dungeon and not open world ) but the character customization is amazing and seeing the content once is well worth the experience imo. It is deep and complex, unlike 99% of everything today.

I don't mind the weight restrictions as that is realism... bag progression is somewhat realism but here you get into a problem with your interface... that is the UI which we use to interact with the game elements.. make that crap searchable / sortable in different ways like any database view...

Yes... one thing i absolutely hate in RPGs is dealing with inventory... Most things that are abstracted annoy me and I feel takes away the immersion and reality but bags ? Know what is shitty ? The biggest advances in MMORPGs other than graphics of late has been the monetization schemes and integration of that into gameplay. The funny thing ? Some of the things we lost may come back due to that integration... Take DDO for example... Locked chests, Rez cakes...

Again, the lazy lobby vs world issue... some folks want to log in for 5 minutes get warped and get purples, others want to explore a world and the 2 groups honestly deserve different games..

Yes, what would be great is that the game world would be designed where those skills ( non combat ) aid you in exploration ( vanguard did this very very well ).

Skyrim combat with a bow was great ... A caster it sucks.... I mostly play casters in MMOs hence why I like lots of spells 2 spells and swap breaks reality for a caster as does skill bars for a fighter. 2 best MMO spell caster classes for me were ddo wizard ( can't get enough ) and almost any...

And that is the problem... the trend is toward all combat, all action and not toward other ways of remaining in the game world.. until that returns I don't think we will see an MMO grow over time again. Simplistic combat even makes this worse as does soloing... there are only so many...

I think the point being missed ( maybe ) is i would like reputation to be based on "in world" activities and not how someone speaks on a voice channel.. Let the interaction with the world and players and inherent connection points in the game determine reputation ( e.g. that guy rips people off...

Honestly, Vanguard has some amazing content if you have not seen all of it.. the dungeons are fantastic. I played the crap out of it despite all of the issues. One thing they did very well in dungeon design was HUGE sprawling non linear dungeons which had "quest chains" where you can: Do a...

I think you hit the key to this at the bottom of your post... if voice chat was not a side thing and "part" of the game somehow it might encourage less of the garbage i have experienced in voicechat... if i want to talk to folks about their lives i would go to a bar and hang out with people...
