Wildstar Launch Thread - Server: Stormtalon | Faction: Dominion

Games have changed.. With solo to end game, lack of predefined roles in groups, 20 minute McDungeons there is really no need for community and social interaction anymore.... Game designers in the MMO space have failed because they removed much of what built relationships in the past to make...

The things you say don't matter if done correctly can actually create something where it's about the journey and time spent... Rather than "showing off the shiny" ... Which is basically what we have today... In cookie cutter MMO 1000000000 . . .

Wildstar Launch Thread - Server: Stormtalon | Faction: Dominion

I think it doesn't matter if it is action RPG or more traditional RPG for conversation/community. If group mechanics were returned to games ( roles, CC that matters again, classes that have clearly defined roles and support for grps ) things like that really up the community because you depend...

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

So i received a beta code from square enix in my email and registered but it seems to keep wanting this one time password, which i can't get without "registering" final fantasy IV... so the beta code is not enough ?

Agree whole heatedly... It seems pretty clear who are the game designers these days... and they are the publishers not the game designers of old. If features are based on revenue dollars and as such, new things will not come.

How to addict consumers to a real next-generation MMO

well considering weight is the key to crushing bones and in games only slashing attacks are simulated it does make sense that a mace would do more damage to a skeleton than not. Of course, if we are abstracting damage to a mob in action games and showing a "slashing" animation that means...

Yes DarkSouls combat is win. Try to kill a skeleton with a sword... kinda hard as it should be.

Yep Go figure that in MMOs multi player dependency is gone... and long gone.. and i am willing to bet it is what killed the genre for most of us. i know it has for me why play a crappy single player experience disguised as an MMO ? it does not make sense.

How about just a damn MMO with some fucking immersion so I can forget about my shitty day at work ? Something that sucks you in for more than a damn month maybe ? WoW killed that and that is why it blew up to the degree it did. They really minimized immersion breaking things better than anyone.

    Baldur's Gate nwn2 remake - Nearing Release

Its in 3d and the nwn2 engine with mods is a damn good looking game ( yes even by today's standards ). its not 2d sprites.. Further, its based on 3.5 whereas the original was based on 2. I am playing through IceWind Dale mod now and it is awesome.

How to addict consumers to a real next-generation MMO

Crowd control needs to be required again and come back... and I don't mean simply sheeping a mob. Meaningful crowd control.. I mean i get why folks would think 5 skills are enough because one thing that has been lost is GOOD group dynamics and dependencies. With all of these new games that are...

How to addict consumers to a real next-generation MMO

The problem with this skill reduction idea is that encounters also have less variety. for example in ddo my wizard has a crapton of spells. Why ? Because different encounters require different tactics. Wow does not have level of complexity and depth either. Also there are buffs, utility...

How to addict consumers to a real next-generation MMO

Some classes warrant that many... I wonder if those wanting 5 don't play mages. I can see for a rogue or warrior something having few skills but a mage with 5 skills ? My wizard in DDO has like 30 or something and they are all useful ( a bunch are buffs and non combat however, so maybe 15 combat...

How to addict consumers to a real next-generation MMO

Each character starts the game as a fully fleshed out and functional archetype. They have a limited number (5 ish) of abilities and have access to them all right out of the starting gate. It is up to the individual player to learn how to make use of these abilities. The lion's share of the focus...

Venturebeat: Blizzard delays unannounced MMO until 2016, resets whole project

Indeed ! Think about it, the next 12-18 months sees 4 substantial releases that will show quite a bit about what the market wants ( EQnext, ArchAge NA, Wildstar, TESO ). That said its scary that Blizzard does not know where to take its next MMO. Imagine the pressure they have to repeat... its...

Falling out of love with gaming

Was thinking about this last night. The biggest reason MMOs are fail for me these days is if you recall the eq/eq2 era, group mechanics were somewhat complex. Yes they did, for items as well and it worked well. I always thought pvp in eq2 was the best implementation of pvp. Since leveling at the time took quite a while most of your pvp was just part of what you did as you leveled to control territory ( dungeons and such ). Which to me is the only...

Very similar here for me as well. Most of these games that come out are just not that good. Skyrim was the last modern release that really sucked me in. The last 2 MMOs I still play and enjoy are DDO and Vanguard both with their own set of problems. I thought WoW was really great through BC...

    Rift: Planes of Telara

I have to say leveling rift at release was one of the best leveling experiences I have ever had although too short. The trees gave you some sandbox, the rifts and PVP around them was always there, the invasions were fresh at the time and the game looked pretty good. It was great... then i...

    Neverwinter: PC

I was hoping for more complexity than diablo3... I can't see anything challenging about as a rogue holding down the LMB for most of the time and using the same 2 other skills nearly all 60 levels... so how can people suck that bad ? not gearing as you said i guess.. Yet, the game looks sick...

ok 2 questions for those playing. 1. Do all dungeons feel like a dumb spam fest in 4 person gauntlet from arcade ? as in, solo seems fun but group is rather boring ? 2. I am level 22 and playing rogue, class is fun but seems encounters get a bit repetitive with the lack of creativity i...
