Off to bordercon this weekend, 4 days gaming convention on the state border, about 4 hours away. 3rd year I've been and it's awesome fun. In some ways it's better the local ones since you're out of town and focused on gaming without the usual distractions at home. Highly recommend people to go...
16 pages a year is pretty decent and page one usually includes some year specific info like fantasy team leagues and tipping comps. I'm happy with new thread each year
Damn you, I'm trying to but back on my board game purchases!
But looks like an easy by. Love a good coop game that's simple or friendly enough to play with non-gamers.
Descent it is probably what you're after, or Imperial the Assault if you'd prefer the same thing with a star war theme.
Mice and Mystics is good too and more kid friendly if you need that. Gloomhaven is also a good option, though hard to get at the moment.
I usually end up trying to help whoever might win just to end the game quicker. Been stuck in too many gamnes of it that have just stretched out way past it being fun.
Pretty great game. If you're crafty at all, its worth the effort to make magnetized version of the player mats, for the production amounts at least. Just print a new copy, put a strip of metal behind it, another piece of paper at the back and laminate.
Yeah, have to agree. It was like one of those terrible sequels where they focus so much on what worked in the original (groot, random humour) that it ruins it. Such a let down after the first one. The first had it's fair share of plot holes but it was easy to ignore them because it was so damn...
It's a combination of storage boxes, like plano boxes I think, that I got from my local $2 shop. Has to modify them a little to make them work well, but now it's nicely done and works well in setting up and using while playing. Still need to fix a couple of things though.
I picked up The Colonist last week and got a chance to dip my toe in on the weekend:

Really epic game, only played Era 1 out of the 4 you can play, and felt like I was just starting. Playing all four eras ends up being 6-8 hours apparently, though you...
Yeah, pretty sure you can rule the young lady out completely if she'd be in a 5 player game. While turns are speeding up for us, there's still a fair wait to the point where my partner reads a book and does work. Admittedly she's lost interest in competing in the game generally and is focused on...
I always wonder when they start talking about how someone, like Caleb, is strong and will help with the challenges, no one points out that he's been on the losing end of three challenges in a row. Can't help but think he's just shit at the game.
Looks like there's a kickstarter for the reprint coming in April for anyone who's missed out. (will be an addon for the founders of gloomhaven kickstart but you can opt to just order gloomhaven.)
Reprint confirmed. | Gloomhaven | BoardGameGeek
Can't recommend the game enough. No doubt I'll burn...
Yep, codenames is definitely one you want to adjust and house rule to make it smoother for the players you have.
Also, beware of Codenames: Deep Undercover. While the idea of an adults version with lots of innuendos is pretty cool, the result is a game where so many of the words are closely...
Champions of Midgard isn't too bad but feels like a watered down version of Stone Age or Lords of Waterdeep. Just lacks that little bit more depth to it.
I much prefer Raiders of the North Sea, another viking worker placement game, but with a unique mechanic that makes it stand out...
Yep, looks awesome. Can't wait to play it. I ended up playing through PL twice since I got it as birthday present. Was still great experience though I had to step back and not offer any advice on what the rest the group should do since it was there first time.
(trailer is from the kickstarter but it's already been produced, with a 2nd printing due sometime this year)
Finally got to bust this out and play it properly on the weekend and really love it so far. It had sat on my desk unboxed for over a week as I worked out how to organise it and play...
We're going a game every fortnight, which helps prevent it turning into a chore or making it tedious for some of the players. 3 of us are fighting for the top, always competing for winning each game, while 2 have dropped off. Not sure how they'll be able to catch up.
Still enjoying the game but...
Forgot to answer this, sorry. I think everyones approach will be different and not necessarily be useful for other people, not to mention how much they evolve through the process. That said, I found the snowflake method to be a good place to start since its methodical approach suits my mindset ...
would love to see Leicester win the champions league while at the same time being relegated. Just for the lols, don't have anything against them and was pretty happy to see them win last season.
My Gloomhaven just arrived and I can't wait to dive into it.
Debating if its worth it's on threat since there's so much spoilery stuff in legacy / campaign games you can't discuss them too much.
Did you manage to get your first game done?
Played Agricola a few times and don't mind it but never super eager to play it.
Looking forward to The Colonists though, which looks similar but way cooler, imo:

I'm overstating how slow it was because the last time I played we had a particular AP prone player who took longer than the other 4 of us combined, before going broke, sacking half his staff and rage quitting around mid game! It's still a flaw of the game and I wish it could flow better but it's...
