I'm with Vorph here. To me stables is the permanent final choice and war mill is temporary. war mill essentially gives you 500 gold per week (a free seal) once you are done leveling your followers up and dont need the work orders anymore (or get tired of missions and stop bothering). Nice if you...

    [WoD] Garrison Optimization Launch Thread

I feel that an Inn at least for a few weeks is a no-brainer for anyone that finds the missions sub-game fun (I do, wish it had an app though). I used the first two weeks with the Inn to get me some scavengers and I'm actually unsure if I should go for a third or start plugging the holes in my...

    [WoD] Garrison Optimization Launch Thread

Regarding #1, that seems to be a two-edged sword. Your concern is echoed here, but others might be happy that they can double up or quadruple up on their garrison gameplay and reap four times the rewards as well. Making the garrison accountwide would change that. Giving each player the...

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

The GR-generating buildings were underestimated vastly in all the theorycrafting, I'm glad I switched away from barn midway so I dont feel burned about it. I didnt beta, did they nerf the barn right before release or did all the guides jump on the blood train with the shitty drop rate that it...

    [WoD] Garrison Optimization Launch Thread

I followed the barn suggestion that was thrown around alot before release and while I'm happy with the income and building a stash of hexweave through the fur, I am seriously GR-starved to the point that I am considering a switch to lumber mill or trade post. Lumber mill gives another 1-2...

    [WoD] Garrison Optimization Launch Thread

I changed my building plans to the Inn after reviewing my mix of followers, and I'm happy with that choice so far. All said and done the weekly new recruit is the only way to expand your follower list regularly once you went through the achievements and hidden quests, while something like a barn...

Star Citizen Online - The search for more money

Iirc Xwing used atmospheric flight models, no turning the ship around while continuing in the same direction etc? I'm sure alot of people that arent as informed as their forum population are going to be surprised by physics-based space flight, for good or bad. How has the money per backer...

Diablo 3 - Reaper of Souls

Not much on the game at Blizzcon but one positive that stuck out for me was that they want to rework the always-identical outdoor maps at least for rifts. Basically knowing all the maps beforehand soured the game for me in vanilla (amongst other things), and all those re-used rift maps gave the...

Star Citizen Online - The search for more money

One issue with organic and random content is fairness. A game always being fair and not imposing impossible situations on the player is a major limitation for design. If you look at current games you notice that most of them try to avoid designs that the target audience might perceive as unfair...

Star Citizen Online - The search for more money

I'm sure most players will come to dislike the simulation aspects of the game but it's actually the thing I'm looking forward to. I'm hoping they manage to create a very immersive experience, instead of making more and more concessions to make it more game-y. What happened was monocles and CCP...

A couple of 496-535 pieces arent gonna make a difference in just a few weeks, why bother with that unless you wanted to level that dk anyway? If you feel better, I only got 4 different pieces of cloth on my priest (and 5 dupes) but enough plate to outfit an army. Then my hunter got a whoopin...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

The only chart I found has EQ in decline before and after a spike in early 2004. Looks to me like people that quit over PoP (it wasnt a great expansion for non-raiding casuals) checking out GoD and finding out that even the first zone is gating them with an impossible instance, and leaving again...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

Many people are pointing out GoD as the cause, and I think you're painting over that. There were a few alternatives from 1999 to 2004 that didnt dip EQs numbers much. PoP and GoD rewrote the game rules for EQ and at least PoP had alot of fans that loved it, you'll be hard pressed to find someone...

In a sandbox game I'm all for slow travel. Despite what SOE keeps saying I'm not sure this game is supposed to be one, though. If they follow through with a huge world and sandbox gameplay a good solution would be giving players the ability to create wizard spires that you can port to with the...

What is your point, exactly? That drawing an arbitrary line between content you deem interesting and content you skip leaves you with less content? I am not sure what you expect short of them throwing away their entire concept because you just want to explore the overworld but also not miss out.

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

I'm not sold on Garriot but "selective multiplayer" probably is going to be standard for the type of game the industry calls MMO (I wouldnt class them as such, but eh). Although between Garriot and Roberts I would (and did) hitch my cart to Star Citizen for my almost-mmo-but-actually-not-oneT...

WAR dwarves were awesome, they could do worse then copy that. For the ogre to WoW orc comparison, are we talking Thrall style love-orcs or Warsong clan? Dont fight it, just embrace it. I suggest you create a female human as your character, modeled after your disney princess of choice.

If you havent played those MOBAs, they are pure pvp games and it works fine. Without escalating the theorycrafting, the ice comet is ranged so obviously different from backstab.Bottom line is that they need to view it as a balancing tool and not just give everything the same animation lock, though.

    Titan has been cancelled.

Imo GW2 was fucked up by PVP. The boring itemization and the lack of real CC or "overpowered" skills that make PVE fun can both be traced back to that. One can only hope that MMO designers get past that bland unicolor balancing eventually, god knows MOBAs have enough fun and different classes...

Shroud Of The Avatar - Shit Went Persistent

MMO vibe was gone the moment I navigated my little icon across the map directly. It's more like a version of GW1 where you have more public zones (in GW1, only the cities were public). It also reminded me a bit of BG or Dragon Age. Which is fine, and not so different from the megaserver tech...

I like GW2, but the loot is shit, plain and simple. Sure people still do champ trains, it's GW2's version of a neverending daily grind for rep. Every game has shitty parts and in GW2 it's the loot and the lack of soft class roles (wouldnt want hard class requirements, but better CC/healing then...

I like that article, mostly because it mentions consequences, especially negative ones, that are based on the choices you make while playing. Arent they having a pre-release event that might run for a few weeks where orcs storm out of the dark portal and you can farm your ass off for a pokemon? I was actually going to sub a couple of weeks for that and the first few levels into WoD before I lose interest again.

I wouldnt put it past Blizzard to not include a team chat function and only provide a set number of hotkeys for communication. It's really unthinkable for LoL or DotA to cripple their team-based game like that, but I'm sure HotS is aimed at casuals that would not mind or even notice. On the...

    EQN:Landmark Beta Starts March 26th!

It's not about Smed in any case, he clearly spells out his 'direct supervisors' as his reason for leaving. That's probably as close as he can get without calling them out by name. Would that be Michaels and Butler like gogojira suggested or does SOE have another management layer between his...

You can only judge that if you know the profit the investors expected from the game, both within the launch months and for year 1, 2, and so on. If they expected 800 mill per year and get 140 mill, that's a failure. Does anyone actually know the returns that were expected from TOR before it...

The early access being subcription-based is rubbing me the wrong way for some reason, especially with the final product not being sub-only. Or did I read that wrong somehow? Seems you only get free alpha time with the 1k purchase, or at least not for the $50-100 price range.

Most examples here are black&white good vs evil(probably for clarity), but keep in mind that hopefully they are going with a well-developed catalogue of factions that has much wider and deeper interactions then good elves vs evil elves. If they make the environment matter beyond being a pretty backdrop that would be great. The sandstorm effect they added to the new GW2 area is a nice touch, they even tied it into the gamelpay through the meta event chain. It is still gimmicky because it's every hour, on the hour. But still...
