I like how you use "Benny Hill" describing chaos... the music theme and comical characters chasing each other (in a 2x camera speed) is just hilarious. Now the theme will be stuck in my head the whole day.... :P

I agree with you all the way. The last thing I want to do in an MMORPG is "play the interface" but the good news is we're seeing the trend of minimizing skills in the action-bar (which is a good thing) let's hope we get less of this "reactive" (whack-a-mole mini games) in your action bar. I...

Correct me if I was wrong but didn't the 4e pushed the IP to be more combat-specific / combat-oriented and less of "Role Playing" the combat seemed like you're playing a dungeon crawler and not an RPG. That's why a lot of our playing group switched to Pathfinder.

Yes, some classes did use the F9 to change camera angles which gave them advantages. But can you call that 3rd person view? when you move in a dungeon, are using that same angle? I don't think so, you go back to First Person View and when the camp is set and the group is ready to grind you, then...

Vanguard - I don't give a fuck if it's dead, It's still brown as fuck (Download link in 1st post)

Thanks that's so stupid of us... damn we've been through that temple many times with plenty of death runs. But I swear to you one poem dropped from inside the temple (it was either pride or dishonor) lol. Okay I'm glad I don't have to deal with the temple for now. But to be honest we had a...

Vanguard - I don't give a fuck if it's dead, It's still brown as fuck (Download link in 1st post)

I've been trying to find them for over a week. When was the last time you did this? Because I know for a fact my friend looted the 4th Poem from a 3-dot mob inside the temple, 100% sure. We did it last Saturday. Maybe there are more than one mob that can drop poems? I'm not sure, I just know...

yeah I heard about the controversy which lead to canceling the Lineage 3 project but they started from scratch and in the progress of creating a Lineage 3 last time I checked.

Only three of them are outside, the other two are inside. I know my friend looted one deeper inside the temple (when I died just a second before the 3 dots mob died). It's quite tough, not soloable for sure.

Am I the only one who finds the dungeon on Isle of Dawn to be extremely difficult? :P I can't seem to get the last two poems for the Shotaru quest (can I leave the island without completing the quests?)

    Lineage Eternal

I liked the game play video that I saw (last year?) but it's not the kind of game I'd be investing time on. It didn't feel like an "MMO" to me though. God I can't wait for Lineage 3

But I don't think I care for realistic approach in any game (unless the game is built around it) the thing about First Person View is more of a complete different game experience than the 3rd Person View. Each has its own kind of feel to it and it's not only about "immersion" or being...

If you think 1st person view only merit is "immersion" then you're wrong. Limitations adds to tactics and challenge. 3rd Person View gives you too much information that your character shouldn't have unless they have a high tech radar installed. Analogy: Would MTG, for instance, be as fun...

and you base that on? Hey, I can do this too.. see how easy it is... check it out. 3rd Person View has no place in a MMO. Other genres yes.

Do you know how many element First Person View brings on the table? A LOT. Both are totally different experiences and your preference is understandable but FPS is NOT only what most people think it is (just a camera thing). It is NOT.

To be honest and I hope I don't offend anyone. I think most of the devs behind many recent MMORPGs are simply CLUELESS. This answers your three questions. :P

I don't think you dislike "levels" what you dislike is the pace, level-curve and itemization. and I agree with you, I HATE these three in every MMORPG released post WoW. Because the level-curve is so fast there's really no point in investing time on gear. Since reaching max level is pretty...

I agree. I don't like the idea of "If you don't do it now, you will lose it forever" I hate restriction. I think EQ did it better with the Skill System. You can still rush to be leveled up but your Skills were pretty low for your level and you were somewhat gimped BUT nothing is lost forever...

Are you sure? I'm sure it was there before SoL (quad kiting tigers in Velious continent I remember this has happened to me). Keep in mind you don't "lose aggro" it just the monsters stop chasing you due to distance.

    Wizardry Online

The first dungeon is very crowded (in the Eu server the first 6 channels are full). When you enter a dungeon make sure you join a crowded channel if you want more people to interact with. You can steal items (money too?) from players (or NPCs) or kill them but you'd turn red and then they...

Also dying somewhere in Lava in SOLB was hilarious. I also remember dying in Steamfont mountains in a cave after being "feared" by a necromancer NPC towards the INSIDE of the cave against my will!! and killed. Now, go look for a high level player to help you get your corpse. :P

I think comparing EQ CR to WoW is just ridiculous even in outdoors You're right, I think some people forgot that (at least for noobs) when you die in the middle of an outdoor zone like Faydark or the Karanas there's almost no way you can get your corpse back without knowing the exact /loc...
  31. Laura

    EQ Never

Maybe not in dungeons but definitely in big outdoor zones and when the distance between you both are huge. However, if you get back to them they will chase you again (which means they do quit chasing you because of distance but will never forget you until you zone or die).

Some Corpse Runs were..... HELL. Not only did you lose XP and no Cleric around to rez you... it was almost impossible to get your corpse back. Group abandons you and you're SOL and JWF (Shit Out of Lock and Jolly Well Fucked). What you can do is make an inconvenience (CR) and then give 25%...

Yeah, you're right the combat did feel stiff for me until I got used to the Target Locking mechanic (which I don't like) but once I learned to combo and block with my fighter it was entertaining. In WoW dying was a feature, a "skill" that can be helpful. For instance there's a quest which contains an item in a tower which you had to fight many monsters to get to. But instead you can just die below the tower then go back and take the stairs in ghost form and re-spawn near the quest...

Point #1 is exactly what happens in EQ. You aggro a monster that you're far too fast for it and when the distance becomes "x" the monster stops chasing you. I remember this clearly and especially in outdoors (my first character was a druid). Problem is, the leash in new games is just TOO short...

I played Aber MUD (do you consider this a big MUD?) and no EQ was different... reason? 3D environment. There are more tactical choices you made on EQ that weren't in MUDs (as far as I know) and these what made EQ. I'm not saying EQ is not a virtual representation of DIKU MUD, it is and that's...

If you think when we talk about "freedom" we mean Trains, Pulling, Splitting.. then you're wrong. Freedom means you're not being hand-held through quests/tutorials and the paths are not linear as the games released post WoW. Freedom means you are free to go and do whatever you want. You're...

You know how you sound like? Your definition of freedom is like being in prison but having the choice of 31 flavors of ice cream and you look at the window with huge field and you say "One field, less options... less freedom." That's how your logic work, kind Sir.
