Or I could just keep my current machine which runs every other title on the market *very* well for free. I think you are honestly being way too flippant about people just going out and upgrading. That may have worked when things came along every 6 months that made the computing world rethink...

I understand why you want a machine like you have, but my point is that you are statistically nonexistant when it comes to what the average user has and can expect to achieve.

So yeah, spend nearly 5 grand on a computer and you too can get "decent" graphics at 40 frames per second!

It"s certainly worth 19.99 and a month or so of sub time to get a character to 60. You may find you like it more than you expected, or you may hate it.. but 20+15 (worst case) for 2 months of a game is a decent deal, compared to single player titles that can cost 50-60 and last you 2 weeks.

Another thing is that you are playing the free trial. There is a limit to the number of tells you can send and recieve so as to stiffle the goldspammers who abuse the trial. That doesn"t explain the guild thing, but god, if you just joined the first random guild spam invite that you recieved.. yeah.

Have you, I don"t know, tried taking the initiative and talking to others? Level 7 you say? So in 2 hours of playing you haven"t made a new best friend? Sounds definitive.

Yeah my bad, I got you and another reply confused. Either way, my enjoyment of MMO"s doesn"t come from sounds and music and voices or the lack thereof. I enjoy building a character, working with others and making shit dead. If the situation I am in that best fits those criteria also subjects me...

Yeah, I can understand that.. but to think you can immediately assess a person"s skill and worth based on their voice over Ventrillo is a bit off. But luckily most of these programs come with individual settings so if someone really grates your nerves, you can turn them down or off. Personally...

They already have plug-ins for TS/Vent that change your voice. You can gender switch, be a child or even Darth Vader.

Then why weren"t any of these concerns addressed in beta? And don"t say it wasn"t known, because there was a large consensus that the world felt sterile, barren, lifeless.. and I am not just talking about mob placement. Having a huge world so that you can try to mimic nature is nice and all...

While LOTRO may not have textures as large as VG, it definitely looks better imo. It has "atmosphere" and feels much more alive. Vanguard just feels sterile and objects just don"t mesh with the world. The whole thing just looks like a half-finished photoshop job.

The worst I remember from WoW was doing BRM stuff as horde. Zep to BB/UC and flightpath to Kargath. At least you could AFK and take a leak or get a snack for the raid while doing most of it.

Aside form the lore being completely absent from the game, what little there is just feels really generic, stale and overdone. Magic hungry elves becomming corrupted? Gee, where have I heard that before.

Yes, some of those skills could make you more successful than others, but they aren"t something that every person in the group needed. A good puller could time spawns and watch other groups to "steal" mobs as you put it (which isn"t going to win you any community awards if you are talking about...

Why all the nerd rage against Vanguard

You act like MMO skills are something that are hard to develop. Anyone that plays any genre of game with some success can pick up a MMO and adapt quickly. How hard is it to "buff players, tank mobs, heal tanks, dps mobs to just below the gank agro threshold and profit!"? It"s not. And while...

Correct. My opening day server had queues, but was never down for long periods. IIRC, there were only 18-20 servers (dubbed the terrible twenty) that were part of the same clusters that had the most trouble. It sucked yeah, but there were 50 other servers people could have gone to.. and refusing...

I think one of the main things that contributed to it is how many core systems got revamped multiple times or scrapped altogether. Combat went through several major revisions, from turn-based to super fast action. Harvesting used to be a clone of combat, where you "fought" the resource. Spending...

No, please bother. If you can make a logical argument why a MMORPGshould have food/drink be an integral part of your playing experience without any method of creating that food yourself, I am all ears. Of course that is just one of many things I listed, and there are plenty more I could name...

But you see genius, there is more to a game than just raw content. Sure, Sigil could make a huge world and overlay a 10x10 grid and drop a mob at every intersection. Content! If your content is buggy, incomplete, unitemized, or just plan not there, then something is wrong. Even still, there...

A large portion of WoW"s budget was likely allocated to advertising and localization across the world. They didn"t spend 80 million just on coding, and Sigil hasn"t spent a fraction on advertising that Blizzard did. Plus there is no overseas massive campaign either. That said, yes 80 vs. 30...

I believe he is talking about pulling a mob, getting some adds, knowing you can"t win and trying to flee. Mount does no good here unless they very recently made it so you can cast your mount in combat.

Budget doesn"t matter, it"s what you do with the budget given. If WoW had flopped, then you could say they were inefficient.

I wonder if the healer-tank discrepency comes from EQ. You know, that game where noone needed your warrior but 8 clerics could log in at once and be grouped before the screen fully loaded. People hear "group based game" and immediately remember that healers got blowjobs and gummy-bears even if...

This part is likely true. Evenifit dropped to 50k subs, the AAP and SOE"s backing would keep it afloat. And this part is just unfounded. No one here that is critical of VG (myself included) wants to see it fail simply because they don"t play it. I suspect this line was just inflammatory...

I"m pretty sure they would have to be console exclusive. It"s not really new territory here though, EQOA and FF have shown that MMO"s can and do work. FF is a great example of cross-platform compatibility as well. I think the reason they would be exclusive is more due to the online service...

Engines get redone anyway. EQ has redone their engine several times. Vanguard is already planning to go form Unreal 2 to Unreal 3 in an expansion. I don"t think it"s a stretch by any means to think a dev studio could update and/or overhaul an engine every 3-5 years. And with consoles having...

It"s going to be the wave of the future. In 10 years I bet most MMO"s are console only, or have minimal PC support.. opposite of what we have now. Being able to design for one platform, knowing your limits and eliminating 95% of the technical support issues is a huge boon to developers.

Actually he has. Originally it was at the "core" player, but this was when he was still calling WoW a "beer and peanuts" game that wouldn"t see population growth after a year. Well, after eating crow there, he clearly had to reevaluate the target market.

It"s really a double-edged sword. Sure there are people who like every design of the game, but how many? My guess is it"s not a lot.
