I burned through the British version pretty quick, and it was fantastic. I have my reservations about the US version, but I will probably give in for a fix of Ramsay.

    The Beer Thread

I saw the Magic Hat summer pack and picked it up. It featured magic hat, and IPA, a hibiscus beer, and an elderberry beer. I FUCKING LOVE hibiscus and elderberry, so even though I don't go in too much on the fruity beers I was like shit yeah. Holy crap they were terrible. The elderberry was...

What directors do you trust the most?

Makes perfect sense. I completely agree and I love it for that. I get why you, even as a Lynch lover, wouldn't. There's also nothing really in IL to deconstruct. There are details running though it, but trying to figure it out is a job for a madman much like the film itself.

What directors do you trust the most?

Yes. Yes I did, but I won't claim to understand it either. To me that's part of Lynch's magic - you're going to on a brilliant, incomprehensible ride to a destination far beyond the bounds of practicality. Edit: I also completely understand if people don't particularly care for Lynch's works...

Jags would be awesome this year. Or the Browns. edit: Oh shit, didn't even see Elurin's post. I like that reason too, mostly I just enjoy watching incompetence though.

What directors do you trust the most?

Lynch Wes Anderson Aronofsky Coen bros When those guys make a movie I'm going to love it. honorable mention: Turteltaub Tarantino Spielberg I probably won't love their movies, and I may not even think they're good. I will, however, be entertained.

Scenes that made you cry like a bitch

Dancer in the dark. I have never been as sucked into a movie as my first viewing of Dancer in the dark. It's a whimsical movie and beautifully composed, but the whole thing is so brazenly manipulative and dark. It's a love it or hate it movie, but if you let it pull you in then it is by far...

    Cocktails

Well first things first. What brand of vermouth? Were they already opened and when? What else do you have to work with? Vermouth is an essential ingredient, but you have to treat it with a bit of care. It's a fortified wine and has a shelf life of around 3 months, there is some debate as to...

Silk road is about $2.5 mil a month with everything else combined amounting to less than a mil per month off the top of my head. In almost all cases it is used as a proxy currency pegged to the USD. The price is almost wholly determined by speculation since neither party cares what the exchange...

Newman was also extremely good last year after the first few games. When Newman got to Cincy Mike Zimmer was all "WTF happened to your fundamentals. They are terrible," and then Newman was all "Dallas coaching, man."

You've created a whiskey highball about 115 years too late, slick. Basically as soon as ginger beer was invented someone was like "we should add some whiskey to this." It's not a whiskey buck. A buck has to have ginger beer or ale + citrus juice + spirit. The buck is an amazing family of drinks...

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

As you've noted it's the distribution of the computing power that matters. Seems doubly naive when you look how close a mining pool like BTCguild is to 51%. While it's true that BTCguild is a collection of miners the pool operator has considerable power in affecting larger decisions for the...

    The Netflix Thread

Yeah, I finally got around to watching Drive a couple weeks ago and loved every minute of it. It is the slowest burn of a revenge flick ever, but the atmosphere is mesmerizing. Everything is so detached, which gives the sudden violence this really jarring and uncomfortable effect. It's probably...

I watched probably 15 games this year, so I should be golden. As I was blindly clicking through my bracket I realized my final four was entirely comprised of Big 10 teams, so I had to randomly pick different teams. edit: Oh man, I hope Albany goes on a roll because that is the best fucking...

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

Sounds like you get it just fine. The thing that will make it clearer for you is that bitcoin was never intended to function as an actual currency. It was a proof of concept from a technical white paper. Mining was never intended as a means to make money, but as a reward to ensure that...

I'd be excited for them to resign anyone on the line except for Geathers, who has been very underwhelming. His production could be had for league minimum, and even an average pass rusher and competent blocker would add so much to what's already there.

I think you are putting the cart before the horse there. Wallace was an unbelievable, at times indefensible middle to deep threat. Look at the advanced stats on the guy up until last year. When you've got a guy that good then you are going to bend the system to get him his opportunities. Then...

Yeah, bourbon isn't like wine where you can pick up an amazing bottle for $10 because it comes from an area not famous for producing wine. It scales fairly rigidly where the more money you spend the better the bourbon is. There are of course some that fight above their weight class and some that...

4 roses small batch is legit for it's price, but it's going to be outmatched by a lot of stuff higher up the food chain. The single barrel is similar in price to Rowan's and competes well, but I personally prefer Rowan's. The single barrel, barrel strength Four Roses stands pretty tall at the...

    2013 NFL Offseason and Draft

I remember when the Bengals drafted Maualuga, after he fell from a projected mid 1st to the early second. Marvin Lewis said something to the effect of "I don't know what the other teams were seeing, but he was far and away at the top of our boards." 4 years later and he is the worst starting MLB...

Science!! Fucking magnets, how do they work?

That link suggests that the equation we've been using is off by a factor of 15ish, which is only going to become more out of whack as velocity increases. I don't know what kind of tolerances you work with, but I would definitely hazard to say that's "far off". I can't find a good equation...

Science!! Fucking magnets, how do they work?

This is not under dispute. Rolling resistance is the result of a great many things. Surface and Tire texture, surface and tire materials, wheel radius, wheel spin and torque, tire pressure, velocity, curvature of the surface, tire construction, wheel load, etc... The equation you are using is...

Science!! Fucking magnets, how do they work?

Serious answer: your equation depends on torque being applied to the wheels from the engine (or brakes, I guess) which doesn't happen in an airplane.

Science!! Fucking magnets, how do they work?

That's why it is an upper bound! Given the underlying physics involved with accelerating a giant treadmill to 1/3 the speed of light, I'm not sure the structural integrity of the plane even matters that much. The real answer is probably at whatever speed the first point fails catastrophically.
