For any newcomers, the majority of people (all?) are having their claims reset its voxel data almost daily, so it's not worth it to start any serious building projects yet.
I'd recommend just doing a ton of gathering, crafting better picks/axes/tools, and holding out until the claim situation...
There's a bit of a hump at the beginning because you need to do a LOT of gathering before you can really settle down and start building. Once you get the first upgraded mine pick and can gather rarer resources you can build crafting stations in your claim, more advanced picks, and unlock the...
The game doesn't seem to remember where you have claims, so beware.
For anyone who "lost" their claim, it took me a while but I finally found mine. I had to search through all the Tier 1 islands; keep in mind, it seems that some islands have duplicate names, so one of the islands will be...
I got a killer claim on the top of a mountain, last night.. Was pretty lucky, but I understand what they mean by certain claim locations being more desirable
I'm kind of surprised they are actually bringing up servers the day that the Alpha begins.. I mean I guess you get the raw deal when you're in Alpha, so they don't have to be super prepped for this.
Yeah.. I didn't get an e-mail yet, but I guess you can just start the process here..Sony Online Entertainment - Launch Pad Issue
Pretty anti-climatic day, overall, with the all-too-obvious reveal and super slow "getting Alpha servers up" and such.. but oh well! Soon enough
I think the single claim should be plenty large to do testing, though I imagine more claims will come soon after Alpha begins.
For now, I think making what you want and then saving it as a template and wiping your claim is probably the best course of action, if you want to build a ton of...
My expectations for Alpha, is we can:
1) Make character, pick M/F & name, server
2) Enter world, move around
3) Harvest resources, explore
4) Plant a claim, build in it
5) Use chat channels
Any more than that would be unexpected, for me at least
It's an old pic of a kobold casting a fireball-looking spell, but still a good shot. The little guy is same race as in the Keith Parkinson cover art recreation which was confirmed kobold.
They mentioned that you "soft claim" (my words) any space above and below your claim, so that people can't cut your creations short if you plan on going deeper or higher. So, you can't actually build there, yet, but you will prevent others from claiming there
Yeah, I imagine Storybricks will be a slightly more personalized faction system (some NPCs will react if faction X is greater than Y or if Z requirement is met), and a "different" combat experience.
I imagine the big plus of using Storybricks is a UI that let's you create the relationships...
That's because Square Enix's entire future hinged on the success of FFXIV. If they didn't get something out of it, it would be pretty bad for them. SOE bought up Vanguard as it was dying and invested much less. It would never become a flagship game like EverQuest or Final Fantasy, so why bother...
The way I see it.. a Kickstarter launch is like any MMO launch. You get one chance to make a first impression, and then the majority of people will decide to kickstart or not. Getting the word out will only get people to look at the Kickstarter page.. but that's where the issue lies. If their...
They definitely should have some sort of guild claim. Have a guild claim be massive but expensive, and the expense divided amongst guild members as dues. That way you could technically have a guild of one, but you'd be fitting the entire bill.. or a guild of 100 with a much lighter load-per-person.
New info sounds great, though I'm a little disheartened that full-scale recreations of places from EQ1 are pretty much impossible with the current claim size, without maintaining (what sounds like) a massive upkeep. I suppose people would have to band together and sacrifice their claim for a...
Words from the same person who criticized people for getting trailblazer packs for EQNL, because we had "no info". This kickstarter is barren of info yet people are putting money down yet this is totally different somehow
My main problem is that they created a Kickstarter compaign with the most generic answers possible, expecting people to fund their game.
"It's different and deeper and funner, trust us!"
Try re-watching the released information and think of any other MMO released within the past 5 years...
It's a zone-based game, with likelihood of instancing. "Overland dungeons" just means a zone with an outdoor theme.. But, yeah.. totally not WoW, I guess.
In what sense are they similar to EQ, yet different than WoW/Rift/whatever
Telegraphing and being able to roll out of the way of a sword...
What makes is sound different to you? It has "Wildstar telegraphing", reactionary-twitch combat, no severe death penalty. That sounds like WoW, not Classic EQ. I'm honestly curious, because I haven't heard anything that makes me think Classic EQ.
Gotta say.. it sounds like another WoW clone, but "for a target audience". They pretty blatantly imply they aren't revolutionizing anything; they are just going to handpick what they like and put it in the game (just like every single WoW clone in existence).
What are the chances that Brad...
I can't imagine the type/quality of MMO that will come from a Kickstarter campaign.. MMOs ALWAYS require far more budget and time than anticipated, and this game is going to be catering to a specific audience.
I'd be really wary, for those putting their hopes in this game.. especially given...
